Featured Reviews for Architects and Building Designers in Austin, TX

Dearth Design & Construction
Architects and Building Designers in Austin, TX
30 December 2014
We had a wonderful home building experience and were so thankful that we used Todd. We only interviewed one other builder, but there was something about Todd and what he said that made us decide to choose him. We were 1st time builders and didn't even check his references or know the right questions to ask before we decided on him. It wasn't until the building process when we saw our home coming together that we started to fully appreciate all the aesthetic skill Todd had to offer. We would ask how this or that would be, and he would sometimes use the phrase "let's see what the house calls for when we get to that point". We began to realize how special and unique that flexibility and sensitivity in a builder really was. Our home is stunning and if we ever decide to build again, we wouldn't consider using anyone else. StudioMET designed and built our house. They are very talented and creative. The building process was a collaboration between us. I would highly recommend them to anyone. All calls, texts, and questions during the building process were promptly answered. I can't say enough about how happy we are with the end product.
McKinney York Architects
Architects and Building Designers in Austin, TX
1 December 2012
I have worked with Heather McKinney on the following projects: Canyon House , Austin, Texas 1984, a residence on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia 2003 twice on a Ranch House in Stephenville, Texas 2008 and earlier, referred her firm McKinney York to a client in San Antonio, Texas and worked on this new residence in Shavano Park 2006. This year I was referred by this firm to an Austin client to arrange furniture and bring in an picture hanging consultant.I was most impressed with the spaces, materials, and lighting in this remodel. McKinney York Artachitects pays great attention to detail, and has the highest level of expertise in green and sustainable design. The principals and staff are even tempered and good natured. I refer McKinney York to clients because the designs will be innovative, the overall cost will be within the client's budget, and because they work extremely well with the contractors and the consultants. The design awards bestowed upon this firm reflect a union of client's program, budget, taste, consultants and extremely talented architects.
Clark Richardson Architects
Architects and Building Designers in Austin, TX
5 November 2014
I have worked with many architects over the years, and and can easily say, Clark/ Richardson Architects was hands down the best. They paid close attention to my vision of the spaces I wanted to create in my new home and worked closely with me to bring them to a reality. More than just the visual aesthetic, they created the feel that I was hoping for. Not easy to do when you are remodeling a 90 year old home and have to deal with Historic Preservation guidelines at the same time. They were easy to get along with personally, for both me and my contractor. Their attention to detail was impeccable. I am thrilled with my beautiful, comfortable, 5 star energy efficient home!!

When my husband and I took on a major remodel of our mid century home we interviewed several architects. It was clear from the beginning Jim was the right choice. He asked detailed questions about our lifestyle and our aesthetic preferences, listened carefully and took every detail into account when designing our dream home. The result was an artistic, well functioning design that appeared twice as large without changing the original footprint of the house. Jim was very cost conscious and researched every aspect to help keep us within budget. He worked with the contractor throughout the project making sure the plans were precisely implemented and came up with creative solutions for any unexpected challenges. I could go on with more praises for Jim but probably the best recommendation would be to say without any question we would use him again.
RAW Design & Consulting
Architects and Building Designers in Austin, TX
30 July 2013
My husband and I hired Renee at RAW Design & Consulting for purposes of planning and designing a partial renovation of our 1950's home in Miami, Florida. We were relocating our kitchen and adding a bathroom to our 3/2, along with some other superficial changes. Although we ultimately chose to scale back the project significantly, we worked with Renee through the completion of the design stage and were just about ready to send the final plans to the city for their review and approval. The final plans were fantastic and included structural, mechanical, electrical and other design elements. As first time homeowners (and renovators), we really appreciated Renee's insight and constructive feedback with respect to what would and would not work for our home. Renee's attention to detail and responsiveness to our emails and other inquiries made it an absolute pleasure to work with her. She was very professional and courteous throughout the project, and made the process very simple and stress-free. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her services to anyone interested in a fresh take on their home's potential.

It has always been a pleasure to work with John Puhr and Root architecture. They are always involved in every step of the process, he really takes the time to understand our design, space and architecture concepts. I have no doubt in calling John for our next project.
Katz Builders, Inc.
Architects and Building Designers in Austin, TX
27 November 2012
The Katz Builders team is very professional. We have worked on dozens of projects together over a span of over 25 years (my firm draws the plans and Katz does the construction) and every one of my clients who has used Katz for the construction project has been very pleased with quality, professionalism and service. The level of personal attention and care they provide is unparalleled. In one remodel, for instance, they painstakingly removed the original wood casing from doors and reinstalled it after the remodel was finished. Their tile installer did my own floors and I was extremely impressed with how carefully he and his lead installer planned the layout to make sure that the tile was centered on several different axes as well as ensuring no small slivers of tile at edges and other subtle things I would never have noticed had they done it incorrectly. If something "doesn't seem right" about plans we have provided, the Katz team always call to make sure they get it right rather than "winging it" in the field risking misinterpretation of our intent. They have used many of the same sub-contractors the entire time I have known them which means to me that they have loyal sub-contractors and you will get consistent and high quality results from them. And, once again, I want to mention that in all these years I have not once had a homeowner come back to me and complain about them as their builder. That is very rare in this business.
Kohlhaas Architects
Architects and Building Designers in Austin, TX
15 July 2015
We hired Kimberly to design our new home after ours burned down on Christmas morning 2009. It soon became apparent that we had made right choice, as Kimberly was instrumental in not only helping us design a home, but actually heal from the experience of losing everything. I'll never forget her first walk-through of the destroyed family home - my wife and I were still devastated and the destruction around us just made us sad. Kimberly began to talk about what was possible, what she could do with the space, and how we could take this tragedy and turn it into a dream home. It started a healing process by helping us look forward, not back. As I sit here five years later in my wonderful new office, I remain amazed and grateful for Kimberly's vision, passion and forthrightness. We absolutely love our home, we consistently get compliments from visitors on its design, its use of light and space, and the way it fits into our old neighborhood while being contemporary. I can't recommend Kimberly strong enough to anyone seeking a truly personal experience. We've met two other families for whom Kimberly has designed homes, and while they did not experience a devastating home fire as we did, they all say the same thing - they love their Kimberly-designed homes.
Tom Hurt Architecture
Architects and Building Designers in Austin, TX
14 January 2015
Tom Hurt Architecture remodeled our very dated '70s home in central Austin into a contemporary treasure 10 years ago. They creatively and cost effectively tackled no small challenge of a house on a very pitched lot with a number of structural complications. Their work to bring natural lighting into spaces is most thoughtful. One should expect very special touches and unique ideas when working with Tom Hurt Architecture on a new project or even a simple addition or remodel. In fact, we came back to Tom Hurt Architecture for a small addition in 2014 -- who knew that a mudroom and storage space could be so beautiful and inviting? Most importantly, they listen, hear and execute to a client's specific direction -- in a unique way with delightful surprises.
