Gorgeous looking tubs. I ordered the 6ft round model and it didn't come with jets, which the installer recommended and installed and makes a big difference. When I ordered the tub (Southern California), the owner didn't explain the differences well between gas and electric heaters. Wells turns out it's around $150 extra dollars per month for the electric with no benefits I could see unless you're on solar. The gas heats faster and way cheaper. Also the tub has leaked consistently over the past two years and is always in need of maintenance with sawdust and maintainance, not sure if this is standard with wooden tubs, but it's a lot of work and expensive to maintain.

Hello Evan,
Thank you for your honest review and your kind words about the beauty of our hand-crafted cedar hot tubs.
We are sorry to hear you are still not happy with the cost to run the electric heater.
As we discussed on the phone a few months ago, our offer still stands to send you a free gas heater (a $1,600.00 value!). Your electric heating system is gas-ready so it will be compatible and the same as if you had ordered a gas system in the beginning, which you have mentioned to us before you wish you would have done.
We have many happy customers in your area and abroad and most of them use electric systems. The benefits of electric over gas are a cheaper/simpler installation (no gas-line to run), fewer parts to maintain/service (no gas heater), and smaller equipment footprint.
But you are correct. Gas heats faster and cheaper, which we explain on our website and was also mentioned in an email we sent you before you made your purchase.
Regarding, the leaking tub, we are taken by complete surprise that you are still struggling with that. We never heard back from you after we emailed you the troubleshooting guide in Sept. of 2018. This is not normal for wooden tubs that were assembled properly. Please email us directly with which step of the troubleshooting guide you are having problems with and we'll be happy to assist you.
Thank you for being a valued Zen Bathworks customer.
Sincerely,
The Zen Bathworks Team

The Zen Bathworks team delivers Relaxation to your door! We installed a custom Hinoki Ofuro in our Japanese shower room and absolutely love the tub. The cedar smell that fills the room adds to the sensual experience of soaking deep in this wooden tub. We are able to fill the tub in 20 min to a temp of 106F. With the wooden cover on top, the tub temp drops by 1 degree/hr letting the water stay warm for everyone to have their own private soak. This company is creative, skilled, professional and excellent to work with!

If you’re looking for a hot tub that is an attractive feature of your outdoor space, consider Zen Bathworks hot tubs. They fabricate beautiful cedar hot tubs!
As a landscape designer, I appreciate the pure aesthetics of their tubs. They make a real statement and can be used as a focal point.
As a landscape contractor, I also appreciate the entire kit that includes all the components (of which there are many) necessary for a successful installation.

Had a fantastic experience w Zen Bathworks. Totally responsive during the ordering and delivery process. The tub itself is GORGOUS -- stunning work. A minor repair was required and they provided an excellent and useful guide and kit. I couldnt be more happy! Was nervous ordering sight unseen but this has been a delightful experience. Thanks ZB!

This is THE best investment for me since a long time!
The product this company makes is very high quality and is architectural and beautifull..
I bought an Ofuro bath,
I was very well advised to chose the bath that corresponds to my real needs,
The service and advice from the owner Bill are professional and impeccable.
My Ofuro is now sitting at 200' from the house, in Teton Valley , adjacent to a creek that is glowing all year round....
And I enjoy it almost every day.

After 20+ years of wanting a Japanese soaking tub, that dream became a reality last year, due in large part to Zen Bathworks. There may be less costly tubs out there but nothing compares to the quality of this tub (Onsen) or the helpfulness of the staff. I am SO glad I didn't "settle" for less. I believe this tub literally saved my life with it's calming effect and relaxing properties, because after five weeks of daily visits to the hospital and rehab centers, I could come home and soak all the stress away each evening! Thank you, Zen Bathworks!!!!!

We purchased the 6" Cedar Hot Tub with Wood Heat by Zen Bathworks. We could not be more pleased with the product or the customer service we received from beginning to end. Bill was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in our initial search to understand what would work best for our family. He took the time to explain the various options and how they would work in our climate, etc. They went above and beyond to build and ship the tub to us so that we could enjoy it for the Holidays. Even after delivery, they are more than willing to answer any questions and provide information about maintenance etc. As far as the tub itself, it is phenomenal! We use it almost every day. I love that we can sit under the starts and soak in a chemical free and healthy way. The cedar makes the tubs smell incredible. The heater is easy to keep a fire going. We love that its external vs inside the tub (some other brands have) The heater is super efficient and we have found with the cover it only take an hour or two to "re heat" water for a second use. We live in Colorado where the temps are very cold and this tub performs wonderfully! Highly recommend!

Fabulous craftsmanship, on time delivery, my client could not be happier. I bought a Hinoki wood tub, matching custom made lav. sink, floor mats and tub cover as well as Japanese style stools. All beautifully made. I recommend Zen Bathworks highly!

I bought a hinoki ofuro tub from Bill. I soaked in it four times in just one month, and to my surprise the wood started to delaminate (see video). Bill explained that the wood is a veneer held together by glue. No where is this represented in his marketing. Basically you are buying fragrant glue that can/will fail. 3 year warranty? It is so limited, it is basically useless. All the great comments about Bill? Well they are true when he is selling you, but when a problem occurs its quite the opposite.

Comment from Zen Bathworks:
As a small family business, we take tremendous pride in our products and craftsmanship. Every day we work hard to exceed customer expectations. We are pleased to have thousands of happy customers enjoying our tubs. Over the years, we continuously refine and improve our techniques. We stand behind our products and in the rare case when there is an issue, we do our best to treat each customer fairly. We would like to address the points in this review…
Tub Design: From a background in boat building we understand the challenges of wood and water. To build a reliable wooden bath, we developed a technically advanced design that makes our tubs stronger than anything else on the market. We produce an engineered wooden core used in the walls and floor of each tub. This core is built with laminations, waterproof epoxy, and controlled vacuum pressure. This proprietary process results in a wood panel 10 times stronger than a wooden plank, AND the panel is moisture-stable. It will not expand or contract like a simple wood planks do. That stability is what sets our tubs apart from any others on the market. We use aromatic Hinoki, Teak or Red Cedar as the thick exterior finish material. This technology is discussed in the FAQ section of our website and in discussions with clients. Far from being something we are trying to hide, it is the core reason our tubs work so well, and it is an innovation we are proud of.
This Tub: A few years ago, we had an unusual case where a custom order in production was cancelled. Because of the unique size, we set this tub aside in storage. Many months later we offered it for sale as a “scratch and dent” clearance item at a 50% discount, as-is and without warranty. The customer posting the review was interested in this tub and agreed to the non-warranty sale to save money. That condition was written on the invoice and they agreed to it in exchange for the half-priced tub. Unfortunately, the tub did develop an unexpected problem due to a bad batch of epoxy. When the customer contacted us, we determined that it would be best to get them a new tub instead of trying to repair the old one. Even though the original tub was sold without warranty, we offered to replace it with a custom made new tub at half price – which seemed like a fair resolution, and above and beyond our obligation. They accepted that offer and we quickly made and shipped a gorgeous new ofuro tub. While we understand the customer’s perspective, we were disappointed to see this review after we delivered them a new tub.
We have a solid three-year warranty. Our tubs will last much longer, but as a small business we must place a reasonable limit on the warranty. We will always repair or replace if there a manufacturing defect.

I bought a cedar soaking hot tub from these folks. It arrived a day early--when was the last time that happened? A builder friend and I assembled it in a leisurely two weeks. The directions were comprehensive, with only one ambiguous spot with two conflicting illustrations. But we called them twice, and they were very competent and helpful. The hot tub is resplendent, splendid, gorgeous--I am considering charging admission just to behold this object d'arte. I lived in Alaska for 23 years, and these folks represent the best of Alaska: honest, straightforward, competent and helpful.

Bill—
I wanted to let you know that the Ofuro is gorgeous. I opened the top of the crate the day after it was delivered last month and the scent, the quality of the grain and the color of the tub all combined to tempt me into grabbing the garden hose and jump on in— but discretion stepped in and I think I’ll wait till we ‘re ready to install sometime later this fall. In the meantime everytime I walk into the garage I’m stepping into a Hinoki forest—
Thx for your beautiful craftsmanship,

Our clients home has a distinctly Asian-inspired theme and they wanted to continue it in their master bath. Once they selected the Onsen Ofuro tub from Zen Bathworks, it drove the entire design of the space. We used teak for the counter top, dividing wall and panels on the walls, then trimmed the ceiling with a simple teak crown molding, to create a warm and soothing spa space. The tub sits beneath a window where the client can gaze out into the lush backyard as he soaks in the deep tub. Pairing the wood with antique brass Sonoma Forge faucets gives the space a rustic chic aesthetic.
