We used Warmboard on our Zero-energy home in Berkeley, CA. The system was essential to our achieving a net-zero home. Warmboard's "puzzle piece" approach is simple, elegant, and comes with strong manufacturer support. They created a solid, clear set of shop drawings for us to review and adjust prior to final fabrication, as well as a clear set of installation instructions for your contractor. And while you can't see the product once it's installed, you can certainly feel it. Nothing beats the feel of a home heated with a radiant floor and no other system available today makes it so simple. Well done!

I am a contractor and used Warmboard on a recent remodel addition. The team was fantastic to work with. The product is well made and install went very smooth. We installed hickory hardwood floors nailed down over the top. The end result is a happy customer with warm feet.

We've put radiant heat in a handful of houses; the last two have had Warmboard. If you are going to use radiant heat there's no better solution than Warmboard. Radiant tubes in a slab take too long to heat the floor. Radiant tubes stapled under the floor don't transmit the heat readily. Warmboard panels do a great job of evenly distributing the heat.

We were architect on a very high-end home in Capitola where Warmboard Radiant supplied the heating. This is the only way to heat a house! The project went in seamlessly and the client could not have been happier.

The company looks great at first view, but do your homework on the full project.
We had to provide CAD drawing and we still ended up short in some areas and over in others. Getting changeouts was difficult and took time. We live in a remote area and had to drive a few hours to the warehouse location.
The install itself was very time consuming and the tools provided to line up the tube lines broke during install. We aware of aluminum shards between the sheets. They are very small and float as dust. If they get in your eyes you'll be in trouble. I think this may come from any product like this, but be aware.
The project we completed had a goal of being green. We found we had a lot of scrap left over, half sheets in some cases. We could not recycle them and warmboard would not take them back.
Once installed, the tubing does not stay where you put it and you are still working construction in the house. You can put down electrical fasteners to hold the tubing, but these must then be removed before flooring is put in. Not time friendly and not eco friendly. We opted for gorilla tape. I should note that we had a team put in our front door and they cut one tube, major bummer. So accidents can happen, be ready for it!
We are installing tile and have found that the prescribed products for tile install are no longer available. The warmboard install manuals are basically out of date and need a revamp, but if you want to be warrantied, you have to follow the manual.
Customer service from warmboard during the sales process was great. After sale, they became difficult to reach and to work with. Perhaps this is due to us being DIY and not a regular contract.
Not living in the home yet so I'm hoping the actual operation will exceed my expectations. Now knowing as much as I do, I would look at other companies more closely.

Comment from Warmboard Radiant:
After nineteen years in business with close to 30 million square feet in service, we are proud of our high customer satisfaction. But we have yet to achieve 100% satisfaction. Not every project goes as smoothly as hoped, and we take very seriously those rare instances when we do not fully meet a client’s expectations.
The assets contractors bring to any project are experience and training. DIYers, without those assets, tend to face more challenges. To ameliorate any challenges, should they occur, we typically give even more attention to nonprofessionals, not less, because the first time doing anything usually takes more time, and involves many more questions. Our phones (877-338-5493) are answered at our company headquarters by a real human not a machine, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm PST, Monday-Friday so I was surprised that you had difficulty in reaching us. We have region managers throughout North America that visit construction sites where at all possible, if phone support is not sufficient, to give technical support.
Please contact me directly, so I can understand more about where things might have gone wrong on this project, both to help you with any lingering problems and because we dedicate ourselves as a company to constant improvement. It's said that we often learn more from out failures than our successes. Your feedback is important to reaching our goal of 100% satisfaction.
Lastly, installation happens over a relatively short time in the life of a home. Every Warmboard project whether it goes smoothly during construction as most do, or not, ends up with the most conductive, highest performing radiant panel available. I am confident, that once construction is a distant memory, your family will consider the superior comfort and energy efficiency of Warmboard as one of the most treasured features in your home.
Warm regards,

Over the past ten years, we have completed a number of high end residential projects with Warmboard, ranging from Townhouses in Manhattan and Brooklyn, to ground up residences in Connecticut. The product presents certain technical innovations, especially the aluminum interlayer that decreases recovery times, which makes their product a standout. Whether our personal homes or those of our clients, we want heat that is effective and energy efficient - and that's Warmboard radiant heating. The install process is seamless and easy and having a radiant heat product that acts as your sub-floor saves time and money in the install process. We've installed Warmboard in our personal homes and could not believe how fast it heats up the whole house. The house is an even, constant temperature and feeling the warmth on your feet is like being in a spa. One of the biggest benefits has been the heating bill - huge savings and almost instant ROI. This product is well worth the investment.

Warmboard provides cutting edge, thermally efficient, low-mass radiant floor panels, expert advice and professional service. Combining a structural plywood sub-floor panel with a predetermined, integrated radiant tubing layout (to your zoning specs), the panels are wrapped with an aluminum sheet on the top face. This places the tubing just beneath the finished floor instead of below it (as with a staple-up installation) or encased in concrete. The panels arrive on the job site with a keyed plan, numbered and ordered making the installation process quick and easy.
As an architect, I like using this system as an alternative to high mass radiant concrete floor slabs because of its faster response time, lower water temps required and the seamless integration of the sub-floor and heating system into a single package. The shop drawings are crucial in getting this system right and Warmboard reliably delivers there too.
I can highly recommend their service, their professionalism and their product. They care about getting it right and are a pleasure to work with.
