Dee and his team at G&L have done two projects for us. Several years ago, they terraced our backyard hillside, installed turf lawn and new landscaping. The project came out great and G&L was great to work with. This past Spring, we reached out to Dee again to convert our backyard to drought tolerant plants and install a drip irrigation system. Again, the team was great to work with and new landscaping is doing great, even through this hot summer. Dee has followed up with us to ensure the project was done to our satisfaction.

Dee is fantastic! We loved the design Mike came up with for our backyard makeover. Then once construction started we realized we had made choices that needed to be changed. In every case Dee's suggestions (stucco the walls instead of paint, don't use DG next to the pool, run wood fence topper horizontally) turned out to the best. We are so glad we listened to him. Our finished backyard looks like an art installation but one where you can feel comfortable and at home. Now a year later we had them come back for a few tweaks and again Dee's suggestions were the right ones. We are happy we choose G & L and plan to use them again next year when we tackle our front yard.

We were initially very impressed with the landscaping company. They worked quickly and efficiently and made quick progress. Also really liked the design that Mike came up with. Unfortunately, they left the job unfinished. One area of the backyard was not completed. After reaching out several times, they did return to complete the section that was left unfinished but then left again without putting down the bark mulch that should have been put down per the design. So one section of the backyard remains unfinished. Also, due to heavy rains this winter, very shortly after (mostly) completing the yard, weeds have sprung up everywhere. I have pointed this out and they have not come back to clear the weeds. I could understand not returning if it were a year or two later but the entire backyard is covered in weeds less than two months after completion. I’m going to have to have someone else come out and clear the weeds and re-mulch the area that they just put mulch down.

G & L Design has completed 2 fabulous jobs for me!!! They did such an amazing job on my back yard, that I hired them again to do my front yard. They completely got to know me to understand what my needs are and lifestyle is like, then designed the perfect outdoor spaces for me. The staff is all very friendly, trustworthy and easy to work with. I love my outdoor space so much more now. It is so welcoming. And so cozy and relaxing for my family and I.

G&L completed our backyard redesign a couple weeks ago. We wanted to go drought tolerant, but I hate succulents. We qualified for the DWP's Turf Replacement program and we searched for a company that would work with us to implement our ideas. Mike was a great landscape designer! He took the plans we received from the DWP and enhanced them for our garden. When we needed to make adjustments for additional plants, Mike provided us with several choices and photos which allowed us to make informed decisions. Carlos and his team were great to work with. They were responsive to our questions and requests and even let us know when they were taking a lunch break so we could let the dogs out during that time. Dee came by to check on the project regularly. We have some plants that appear to be struggling. He said they may be in shock (it was over 100 degrees when they were planted) and he wanted to give them a couple weeks to recover. If they don't, he said we should call and they'll replace them. I have absolute trust that they will do so. We're thrilled with our new yard! Next year we plan to do the front yard and will be calling G&L again.

G & L did a fabulous job building beautiful fencing, and landscaping my front and back yard! It started with excellent design by Mike, who listened to what I was looking for and brought great ideas to the table. Dee and his crew did great work with the fencing, and installing the plants and grass. We had to make some adjustments to the gate, but Dee and the crew came back and completed it in a timely manner. Sharon in the office is great and quick to reply. I highly recommend G & L!!

When we bought our house 5 years ago we always knew we would want to overhaul the backyard. It had a big pool and great space, but everything else was lacking. We had a dream to create a backyard oasis that felt like a vacation every time you stepped outside. G&L brought this dream to reality. It all started with the designer, Ashlee, who listened to our wants, budget and overall vision. She developed a design that made us so excited, and if implemented the way it looked on paper, it would be the backyard of our dreams. And it WAS implemented. Dee, the contractor and all of the wonderful workers meticulously worked to create a safe, well built, aesthetically pleasing backyard including an entire new pergola, kitchen, flooring, fireplace, retaining wall, fence, landscaping and more! They went above and beyond to create a backyard that can now be comfortably used all year round. Thank you Dee, Moses, Sharon, Ashlee, and all the incredible workers for making our backyard of our dreams a reality that will be used for many years to come!

Everyone strictly followed quarantine protective protocols, which meant so much to our family. We are really looking forward to spending time in our new outdoor space.

From the design associate, owner and installation professionals we had a wonderful experience. True professionals, very knowledgeable from start to finish. During our initial meeting with the design team we discussed our budget expectations and the design was presented within the budget and included almost all our ideas. Additional options for upgrades were presented but not pushed. The projected completion dates were accurate and met. We have and will recommend this company to friends and work associates. Some of the smaller plants which we are very aware will grow and be beautiful could have been a little higher in quality. G & L did a great job!

Wanted drought tolerant planting to replace 1345 sq ft backyard grass. Met with Mike the landscape architect to create the design. The crew came out to do the work. We had a very good experience overall. Dee and team were always very responsive to any of our questions that arose during the work as well as after and very willing to make changes where needed.

We would definitely recommend G&L! We have just hired Dee and his crew for a second project and are excited to get started. They completed landscape, hardscape, lighting and fencing at our last house and we were very pleased with the results. We purchased a new construction in Simi Valley at the beginning of the year and had to face the facts that we needed to landscape the backyard. A daunting task indeed. I knew I needed to get a few estimates and make my decision. I called many companies and was shocked at the level, or lack of, professionalism in this industry. Quotes that were ridiculously high for what we could get to ones so low that I questioned how they could deliver the product at that price. Some never bothered to even show up for a scheduled appointment. I'm semi retired so we are watching where and how we are spending our money as we move forward to our golden years. Then we found G and L. From the first meeting with Mike to design our space to the change meetings and finally the decision to go with G and L to do the work it has been just a wonderful experience. Carlos and his crew showed up on time every single day and worked their butts off. They did what they said they were going to do and actually finished a day early and we couldn't be happier with the final product. I actually miss seeing them every morning... I give G and L my highest recommendation!!

We contacted G&L design for a professional design of our back yard space about 2 years ago. Mike worked with us to determine our preferences, gave us two suggested directions, and when we chose one, presented us with a beautiful landscape design that checked every box. Fast forward two years, we were ready to execute on the design and decided to hire G&L to carry out the work. The work was done carefully and well, not a rush job. The workmen were consistently courteous and kept a clean worksite. Now we are looking at our very beautiful new backyard, with spaces for entertaining, gardening, and everything else we wanted. They did not cut corners with the quality of the work. I highly recommend this company!

G & L just completed my front walkway and did an excellent job. We put in new pavers and plants and I am thrilled with how it looks.

We hired G&L Design to help us redo the landscape in our backyard. We needed new grass and surrounding plants. Working with them was easy and affordable. From the beginning they helped us design a space we would enjoy and helped us pick plants that would look great year round. The project was done timely and turned out great.

G&L did really beautiful work for me, and I am extremely happy with the results. My backyard was just dying grass and they did a combo of landscaping and hardscaping, installed a flagstone patio and stone steps, veggie planters, citrus trees, hedges, and irrigation for everything. The work was done quickly and efficiently, and they were very thorough. Now I have a beautiful backyard and I spend time outside every day! I would give 4.5 stars only because the communication was difficult at times, there were a couple missed meetings and I had to stay on top of the details. But I think that's common with any contracted work. Overall, the work was done fast and well and I would use them again. Thank you so much!

G&L had quite a job in front of them when looking at our backyard renovation. It was old, taken over by trees, full of weeds almost 5 feet tall, and terrible old concrete! They completely TRANSFORMED this into a beautiful, modern, and economic space. They deserve credit for TWO projects because our dismantling the first was difficult. We had three major trees stumps which were very hard to remove, and required all knew drainage and plumbing. They were able to make the trees look as if they never existed, and implemented a draining system that channeled out into our front lawn. Our front lawn looks as if they were never there. The attention to concrete, planter walls, surrounding walls, and the additional fence was very detailed, and they did a fantastic job creating a two level planting structure where one did not exist. The design process was fun and easy with Mike and Dee, and we really appreciate the automatic watering/ lighting system they put into place (which we didn't even ask for!). We relied on their expertise, and they created a wonderful open and sophisticated space where we love to host friends and family!

We worked with Mike on a design to make our back yard more usable, drought tolerant, and better looking! Our project started with removing all the grass, some trees/shrubs, and an old built-in bench. We then had concrete poured to extend our existing patio (more than doubled in size). Synthetic lawn was added on one side of the yard. New irrigation was installed, and LOTS of beautiful new shrubs/plants/ground cover was planted. Bark mulch finished off the planting areas. We also had our existing pergola repainted to improve its appearance. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the planning and execution. Mike had excellent ideas for the design, and we were very happy with how the plans turned out and how easy he was to communicate with. We made a couple small changes once the project got going, and Dee had some great ideas to ensure that everything would produce the best end result. The crews were very hard working and did a wonderful job with execution of the plan. Our only minor complaints are that the cleanliness throughout could have been better (yes, it's a dirty job, but a bit more care in that area would have been nice), and the painting of our pergola was done pretty well, but there was some room for improvement there given the cost of that part. We are definitely very happy overall with our yard, and we will be using G&L again for our front yard. We now have a back yard that we really want to spend time in!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this company and every single person who works for them. It all began with the designer, Liz. She came out talked to me about my ideas, drew some plans and then provided me with a detailed, to scale drawing. We fine tuned things together and then she did the renderings. OMG, my dreams for my yard in pictures! A month later we were getting started! From the beginning with removal of existing landscaping to now I am beyond pleased. The crew is awesome, Dee the owner is here on a daily basis to check on progress and answer my questions. If it's not raining they are here at 7:00 am and work tirelessly all day. They are friendly and professional. I will post pics when the job is completed but for now you can see some of the renderings. Do not hesitate to hire this company. You will not be disappointed. As a note best way to communicate is with email as they are out working 99% of the time. Response to email is very fast! Note in the renderings I went with the green ground cover not the blue stick.

We had water damage in two rooms from a burst pipe. Dror and his crew fixed the hardwood floor, the walls, the cabinets, replaced the sink and granite and did all of the finished work. I'm giving 5 stars for a number of reasons: 1. The quality of the work and the finished product were outstanding. It fits seamlessly with the rest of the house. 2. The price was fair and final. No changes or additions were added. 3. The workers were respectful and non disruptive. 4. The project was finished on time. Overall I was very satisfied and would absolutely recommend for any project (inside or outside).

We went with G & L Design for our Landscaping project and we are so happy with the results. We were looking for drought resistant landscaping , G & L came out and did a thorough Design that I loved. Their team did a great job with the project from start to finish. I would recommend to anyone. Many compliments from our neighbors already!!

So far completed is a large area of artificial turf in the backyard and a redo of my sprinkler system in the remaining areas of front and backyard.

G & L converted our 3800 sq ft of front and back lawn into ground cover and drought tolerant planting to qualify for the DWP Rebate. They installed a new watering system with 5 stations and a new pressure regulator. They also made 3 DG walkways, one with limestone pavers inserted. Overall, the process went well. Designer Liz’s knowledge of plants is astounding. The crew was competent and accommodating and cleaned up well after each day. Landscape installer Dee was great to work with: congenial, patient, and very fair in his work and his pricing. He went above and beyond in many instances, including staying involved even after the installation was complete. My only wish is that it would be easier and quicker to be in touch and get responses from Dee, as communications go through email or answering service. We are still dealing with a few items. We need to keep spraying the nut grass and the seasonal grasses the rain is bringing up; we need to consider additional ground cover, because at present the plants are quite widely placed; we still have to make some adjustments and additions to the irrigation system; and we’ll need to monitor some plants that aren’t doing too well and may need replacement (which is normal). So my final review will come after the 3 month guarantee period, when these things will have been resolved. But so far I am very pleased both with the amazing job the designer Liz did (including coming back to go over plant care after the installation) and with Dee's competence, fairness, and good-heartedness in caring for all my concerns. I would definitely recommend the Liz / Dee team that is G & L.

As a long distant landlord, I was naturally concerned about the kind of work, response times and willingness to accommodate both me and my tenants. I should not have been concerned. I knew that removing our lawn and putting in drought tolerant plants was something that needed to be done with our So. Cal home, so I did lots of homework before contacting G and L. They worked with my needs, my tenants needs and kept in touch quickly and professionally. For the same budget as filling the front with rocks and a few succulents offered by other landscapers, I got beautiful plants, NO rocks and lots of color. While I have only seen photos of the work, I can say that I am happy with the results and may just have to make a trip out to actually see the transformation. I know that in a year, it will look even better! I have no doubt that I will recoup my investment when the time comes to sell the property. In the meantime, my tenants will no longer have house-payment size water bills. We are all happy!

We had a very difficult sloped backyard that was completely unusable. I meet with G&L's designer and a great design was developed that would give us several usable areas in a terraced landscape. The plan meet our needs and over several weeks of work we witnessed the hillside take shape. The design called for two retaining walls, artificial turf area and upper patio. Much attention was paid to the type of trees and plants installed. G&L had good commutation with us during the entire process. The team was did a great job and always left to the work site clean at the end of the day. We are extremely happy with the end result.

G&L provided new landscape and hardscape plans for front and back yards, removed grass and installed new plants and a tree. New flagstone patios with a short wall and pilasters were installed, and irrigation system was modified for new plantings. New lighting was installed for both yards. G&L was very professional and a joy to work with. Liz, the landscape designer, worked with us to develop a beautiful design that would be easy to maintain with drought resistant plants. Dee, the contractor, was at the work site often to see that the project was on track and to resolve any problems. Juan, the foreman, was an excellent craftsman and took great care in building the hardscape. The work crew showed up on time every day, worked hard, and cleaned up the yard at the end of every shift. G&L worked with us as changes were requested and accommodated our every desire. We had a little trouble with the lighting due to a faulty timer, but Dee made sure the problem was resolved promptly. Overall, the project came out beautifully and on budget. We recommend G&L highly and couldn't have asked for a better contractor.

G&L Design Building and Landscape did a great job designing our backyard and installing a new irrigation system. They were quick ,professional and their price was very fair. My yard looks fantastic and I am getting so many compliments! I would highly recommend them!

If you need landscaping, stop looking around and just go with G&L Landscape. Dee and his team redid our back and front yards giving us a lovely drought tolerant garden that is a joy to spend time in. Liz was our plant person. She really knows and loves plants. I said I wanted an English garden/ Mediterranean look but I didn't like succulents or cacti much. She told us to go onto Houzz.com, bookmark what we liked and send them to her to give her an idea of the look we wanted. With this information and meeting with us, she was able to design lots of grasses, shades of green and texture. Who knew I could save water without a look like the road to Palm Springs. When the plants arrived, we were able to review them. There was one very pointy one which we didn't like in person. No problem. Dee found a replacement with no hassles. Dee and his men took Liz's plans and installed the hardscape - pavers, flagstone and a barbecue, after pulling up all the existing concrete. They redid the irrigation system and the drains around the house which had been blocked with tree roots for years. They built a large pergola and installed lights in the back, front and sides. Finally people can see the front steps when they leave at night. The men were competent, pleasant, spoke enough English and cleaned up after themselves every day, keeping all their tools and the landscape materials in neat, covered piles. And the same men came each time so we all got into a rhythm of what to expect. Dee was always available to answer any questions we had about the process, visiting the site often. Sharon, who works in the office, was responsive via email, always getting back to us in a timely manner. Dee went with us to pick out pavers, stones and flagstones at the stone store in Canoga Park and gave us measurements for the barbecue so we could purchase what we wanted. He worked with us to arrange the gas and electrical outlets. We had some specific plant needs- covering the 3 brick walls around the house to make them more attractive with vines and trees. Also we needed to keep a small patch of grass for our dogs. Plus we were able to incorporate the large boulders from the old design along with numerous clay pots my mom had made. I'm sitting in the yard now, enjoying my garden as I type. Just call Dee and get started.

G&L did an overall excellent job with our backyard project and I highly recommend them. Project Description: Terraced backyard hillside and added artificial turf lawn. Rebuilt two existing retaining walls and stuccoed them. Replaced gravel patio with large square pavers with artificial turf in between. Replanted backyard with new drought-tolerant landscaping and new irrigation system. G&L helped us come up with the design plan. Liz, the designer, understood our needs and provided interesting design options that we would not have thought of on our own. She was very patient during the process and accommodating when it came to our changes. The execution of the plan went smoothly. Dee, the owner, even had a few recommendations along the way (e.g., creating a bench top to the retaining wall near the new lawn for people to sit on) that helped improve the final product. Costs were reasonable, and the quality was very high (retaining walls have french drains, waterproofing, etc.). We could not be happier with the final result.

All these services were provided by G&L for Haddington Dr. project with efficiency and quality professionalism. I would strongly recommend G&L for such landscaping needs and will happily work with them on future projects...

We had a home in desperate need of an overhaul. After working with a designer, G & L took on the task to implement the design providing suggestions on designs that were not tailored properly to the layout of our home. Dee supervised the work and made himself available whenever we had concerns or needed a consultation. Communication was through his office mgr to arrange a meeting time that worked for us. All the work was professionally done! I recommend this company for any landscaping needs. I would use them again.

Total overhaul, re-design,and landscaping (soft and hard) of the backyard - Removed the trees, grass, gazebo; laid flagstone, new trees, new plants, new sprinkler system; Tear down the old fence and driveway gates - built higher picket fences and automatic swinging driveway gates; Expanded the driveway to accommodate two cars and expanded front gate path; We expected the total overhauling and re-designing our backyard and front yard landscaping would be a challenging experience. In our minds, there were so many unknowns in the work plans, work scope and work details. We've never undertaken such a project! So we naturally agonized over selecting the contractor. Even the selection process was a stressful one - making the short list, interviewing several candidates, poring over their preliminary designs and cost estimates. After all this work, our selection of G&L turned out to be a great decision in hindsight. The highest mark we give to G&L is their attentiveness throughout the process. Such attentiveness was given to us from the very start to finish by Dee, the owner-operator. With Dee's personal attention, we felt that every stage of the project was well managed and problem free. We always had access to Dee for any and all consultations and concerns - it made the whole process much easier. The other equally important strength of G&L was the experienced and considerate working crew. They not only worked hard but made sure that they left each day after a thorough cleaning and tried to be considerate to our neighbors to the extent possible. The overall quality of the finished work is very satisfactory and there was no need or promises left unaddressed. The work process and work scope resulted exactly as laid out in our contract and verbal communications. If there were any gaps, we always had Dee to discuss, which was always reasonable. This should be the way the business is conducted.

My husband and I decided to completely redo our back garden. After much research with other companies and viewing many ugly and blah ideas we chose G and L Design. It was a very intensive project. Giant ficus trees with very invasive roots had to come out, along with the roots. Much concrete had to be removed. Most of the old soil had to be replaced. Most of the plants needed to be removed except for a few hydrangeas and roses. We also had drainage problems along the side of the house which were affecting the integrity of the foundation. G and L Design helped us develop a beautiful and comprehensive design and also addressed serious problems. After doing an excellent and clean job of demo the fun part started. Dee, the owner, took us to a stone yard where we found exactly what we wanted: beautiful golden figured sandstone. We wanted much hardscape for entertaining yet for the space to be lush at the same time. Dee's excellent landscape architect Rick took us to nurseries and helped us decide on beautiful trees, shrubs, flowers and herbs. Dee has permanent employees; he uses no day labor. His workers are skilled. Each large slab of stone had to be cut by hand. It was put together like a beautiful puzzle. The stone cutter was an artist. It was a joy to watch him work. We have an upper yard and a lower yard. A beautiful stacked stone curving wall was created along with very pretty large half moon steps separating one area from the other. New drip irrigation systems and lighting were installed. The drainage problems on the north side of the house were addressed. The trees and plants are terrific. Wherever your eye lands there is something lovely to see. As the project progressed we obviously ran into some challenges but Dee always had a solution. When I wanted to make some changes there was not a problem. We are so happy with this fabulous addition to our home we are using Dee to redo the front of the house next. If you're looking for a fair company and talented people look no further than G and L Design.

My husband and I hired G & L Design to create a Tuscany inspired backyard which is comprised of pavers stone patio, custom outdoor fireplace, and soft landscaping. They beat out several other landscaping companies because their willingness to work with our design vision and preset budget, as well as their stellar reviews on Angie's List. Rick Shadley, the landscape architect/designer, worked all of our aesthetic inputs and personal styles into his ultimate amazing artistic yard design. He truly captured our wish of reliving the Tuscany trips we took by giving us a Tuscan inspired garden that looked like a page torn out of a landscaping magazine. He was one of the most humble, gracious, and talented designers we have had the pleasure of collaborating with. The only drawback my husband and I saw was the company's decision not to involve him during all the construction phases of the project. I am sure that he would be more than happy to help if he was called upon -- we just hoped his involvement was already part of the built-in processes. Dee the project manager showed up not once but sometimes numerous times a day to monitor and guide the progress of our project. He was very knowledgeable and easy to work with. He decided to deliver us a custom built fireplace (much sturdier than a pre-fabricated version) after discovering the windy nature of where we live. Based on our experience and observations, the company also hires reliable and hardworking workers. Since the completion of our yard, we have received many compliments from family and friends alike. As with all projects, there were challenges. The company would have received all five stars if it were not for the minor time delays (partially it was caused by holidays and weather challenges). My husband and I will undoubtedly host many parties and spend a lot of free time enjoying the garden and be virtually transported back to our favorite Tuscany spots. I would definitely recommend G & L to our family and friends in the future!

We hired Rick and G&L to re-design our backyard. Before, it was overgrown and dirt, roots everywhere, which a small deck. Rick was a pleasure to work with - he visited and listened to all our ideas and came up with a beautiful plan we were very excited about it. We visited the nursery way and hardscape store together to pick out the materials. rick was incredibly patient with all our questions. Dee and Sharon and all the workers were great. they kept everything clean and worked long hours. dee was on site almost every day to check in and ask us questions - and answer our questions. we were consulted on every detail. after it was finished, dee came out again to explain how to take care of everything. we demolished the deck and gutted the entire backyard - almost every tree save a few. we put in pavers and did have the yard in hardscape. 2 levels and 2 different types. the steps were accented with spanish tiles. then we put in grass, a garden box, and all new plants and trees. new irrigation system was also installed. g&l also installed new landscape lighting. we also had a pergola and discovered dry rot in the beams so new support beams were added. we are thrilled with how the yard came out. we highly recommend G&L Design and Rick.

G and L completely demo'd and redid my front and backyard a few months ago. I live on a hillside with a slope in the backyard. This was no easy project. The design was outstanding, distinctive but yet functional! I am very please with the outcome which includes a deck, a waterfall fountain with 8 trays that drop down the slope along with slate planters and two separate patios -- all in the back. They also put in an enclosed patio with shoji doors creating a spa environment off the master bath. The front included a fountain and step stones as well as wonderful plants both in the front and back. They did a fantastic job!!

The job they completed was not easy and required quite a bit of creativeness......the ideas they were able to come up with not only impressed everyone that saw the house but aided in the quick sale of it as well.
