About Us

OUTinDesign is a holistic design firm that specializes in renovation, remodeling and design-build. We take clients on a design journey towards realizing their vision for living places and dynamic spaces in which to live, play, eat, and rest. We design, remodel, build, and decorate residential and commercial spaces that incorporate elements from the outdoors indoors to make luminous spaces seamlessly connect. The common denominator throughout is a disciplined aesthetic that focuses on revealing the poetry in the most rational approach to space, proportion and light. We are specialized in optimizing small to large urban spaces and creating vacation homes-by-the water for extended families. We work with clients on residential, real estate, restaurant, and hospitality projects in Virginia, DC, New Jersey, New York, and abroad in France.

Caroline's firm, OUTindesign is currently working on our beach house in Holgate on Long Beach Island in New Jersey. She designed our four bathrooms and kitchen coming up with ocean themes and using beautiful, translucent tile and detailing reminiscent of the sea. Our kitchen has a sea glass foam crackle glass counter and the cabinets have sea glass knobs ! The common areas have custom cabinets to hide TV's made from reclaimed materials gathered from barns in Pennsylvania. All flooring is 100-year old barn wood, hand-scraped oak. Her attention to detail is impressive. The result is stunning and sophisticated. Caroline has a great eye, great taste and great vision. I entered into a partnership with designer Caroline Lechaux to renovate and design-build a house located in the historic district of Beach Haven. Her talent and business acumen impressed me while the project was going on, but I never imagined the house would turn out as impressively as it did. Her attention to detail in all aspects of the quality build, the original finishes, the unique appointments puts her in a category all her own. The property now called, “The Ultimate Beach House” is truly that.

OutinDesign's creative designer, Caroline Lechaux, re-designed and remodeled the Atlantic Cape Cottage on Berkeley Avenue in Beach Haven that my wife and I purchased. It proved a perfect home for my extended family since she was able to maximize space to fit grand kids, parents and grandparents all under one roof! She literally transformed the dark and dated cottage into a light-filled space with wood planking covering the walls and floors; even the furniture- most of it, her creations - were wood fabrications. It felt like a cross between a country cottage in Sweden all white and clean, and the perfect Cape Cod beach escape. Everyone who came through was captivated by its charm.

OutinDesign recently worked on a complete renovation of my historic beach home in Beach Haven, New Jersey. The job included expanding the existing kitchen and adding a complete Master Bedroom with an in-suite bathroom. Caroline's vision was to keep the old-world charm of the historic home while similtansously bringing the home up-to-date. This is evident in all aspects of the finishes chosen including kitchen cabinets, glass tile, rustic vanities and fixtures which all complement the style of the home. I am extremely satisified with the outcome. OutinDesign far exceeded my expectations.

Commented: Turquoise countertops on the islandThe recycled (windshield) glass counter tops are custom made. They cannot be purchased. A company in Virginia custom made them for us.
