We chose Nick Ingerson because of a mutual friend's extension which we liked. He created an imaginative design for us on a narrow inner suburban block . Other important things for us included: •project sustainability - rational use of thermal mass including reverse brick veneer, •solar panels ingeniously located on a site largely overshadowed by its northern neighbour, •rainwater collection and storage, •hydronic heating, •his professionalism as the architect, and good working relationship with the builder and all tradies, •the project was completed on schedule and below budget. I'd been considering renovation for 30 years but I'm glad I waited for a recommendation to Nick. He took the stress out of the whole process thanks to his experience, knowledge and attention to detail. He listened to my ideas and literally took them to heights I hadn't realised possible. He showed respect for the original house and created a harmonious transition to the new design. As project manager his knowledge of what was both practical and aesthetically pleasing was invaluable, and he was always willing to give time to help with choices. As a result, the whole house has a sense of unity and the extension has both the wow factor and an ease of living. Nick is easy to work with because of his professional approach, breadth of knowledge, consideration of client wishes and his good humour under pressure. I have no hesitation in recommending his work and hope you enjoy living with it as much as I do!

Over the last 20 years Nick has done house inspections, house extension designs and management and new build design and management. He project managed the new build for us at Belair under difficult circumstances while we were living interstate. Nick at all times listened to our needs and implemented them according to our wishes and we were delighted with the result. It is a common misconception that hiring an architect increases the cost of a build. However, in my experience this could not be further from the truth. I engaged Nick to design and manage a significant extension to my home. It was important to me that the addition was sustainable and environmentally sensitive and I was keen to source some recycled components. Nick was very happy to work with and incorporate my ideas. The build itself was delightful – every day something exciting was going on. Any hiccups were resolved by Nick which meant I was free to just enjoy the process. The result is a beautiful, functional addition to my house that is quite different – and substantially better – from what I originally had in mind. And while cost was not my primary concern, my budget was not unlimited, so I was overjoyed that Nick came up with several significant cost savings ideas – one of which saved over 10% of the build cost (so his fee for both design and project management was than completely covered!). Because of the design, the savings are ongoing – heating and cooling costs are minimal, with the new part of the house staying cool in summer and warm in winter. I am so pleased with what Nick contributed to my home and I can’t recommend him highly enough.

We were fortunate enough to have met Nick 12 years ago when doing our first major renovation/extension. Nick's ability to deliver exactly what we wanted was extremely pleasing. He "fills the brief" consistently. Our little house was transformed into a lovely 2 storey open planned and spacious family home. We then utilised his expertise yet again and built a modern house from scratch. The end result being a beautiful airy , light filled house incorporating local stone and an abundance of glass. His ability to incorporate the bush surroundings blended the house beautifully giving us a tranquil place to live in. Nick has a very organised , professional and enthusiastic approach to his work. Nick was retained to design a rammed earth and ecologically progressive home in the Adelaide Hills. He enthusiastically embraced our ideas and added much to the imagination of the home with additional outstanding features. His embrace of ecologically sound design building methods led to a home which is delight to live in, and is much in sympathy with its natural setting. Personally, Nick was respectful of our budget, and he was always available and interested in our own ideas. We therefore confidently requested he be the project manager of the build: the build came in ahead of schedule. We have recommended Nick to many people over the past decade who have come and admired the home.

Working with Nick was a pleasure. He was always professional and attended efficiently to all the details of a knock down and rebuild. We asked Nick to build a house that was, environmentally responsible, maximising light and ease of movement as we age. As first time builders this was important to us, as it reduced our concerns and made us feel more confident. Nick took our initial sketchy ideas and through a consultative process creatively built on them, always considerate of what we really wanted. One of the things that we really liked about him was that even though we were novices and he was the expert, he was never dismissive of our at times unrealistic ideas. He answered our queries quickly and responded creatively to our requirements. There are so many choices to make in building a house that it can be overwhelming. Nick supported us throughout, making what could be a potentially fraught experience, a smooth, even enjoyable process. We felt safe and trusted his judgement. Thanks to Nick we have ended up with a warm lovely home that is a joy to live in.

It is a pleasure to write a review of Nick's work. We have completed a large and complex renovation that required great skill to merge 'new' with 'old' and we are delighted with the results. Nick was heavily involved in this project, not simply from the design point of view, but throughout the build and in the months after when all the minor and fiddly issues that can arise from a complex job need some follow-up. Essentially he is an architect, project manager, interior designer, and great source of information rolled up in one. We appreciated his professionalism, willingness to listen to ideas, and his extensive knowledge that is built on many years in the industry. What was particularly impressive was that Nick was happy to be involved in all aspects of the build, for example, helping out when we were making selections. Nick was also very good at trying to achieve a quality build without exorbitant cost. This was evident right at the beginning of the design phase, when he would politely question some of our ideas to better understand what we were looking for and how that might be achieved while staying within budget. We can't rate Nick highly enough.

Nick is Knowledgeable, professional and we would highly recommend him for your next project. Nick assisted us with some issues we had with some issues caused by another architect that had become a bit of a nightmare, I only wish we had heard of Nick before we started the process.

Although only part-way through the project, we are finding that his knowledge of the industry, energy efficiency concepts, and problem solving skills are exceptional. His ability to remember the finer details of the project puts us at ease as we head into the build phase our home renovation. I think that engaging him will not only ensure that we get what we want from the build, but also enhance the finished product with deign input beyond what we would have been able to conceive on our own.
