This is a long review, but I promise it will be the most honest review you’ll read about Nelson Construction. I read reviews & interviewed quite a few construction companies for my outdoor living space before settling on Nelson; I’m glad I chose them. From start to finish they have been professional & responsive. Greg, the owner, is knowledgable, straightforward, & all of Nelson’s front office staff dealing with my unending emails & calls about the permitting process, allowances, etc. whew, they deserve a medal just for that. As the customer, I would advise that you read your contract over & over a few times & ask questions about the finer details of the scope of work before signing it. This is something I would have done differently as the customer to avoid some change orders, albeit they were necessary (like relocation of my AC unit) I would have preferred they be included in the contract on the frontend as we had discussed, but I didn’t catch that it wasn’t included in my contract. Prior to the project commencing, I literally, sent their lead designer, Yokasta, a Word doc of my wishlist for my space. She was so patient with me, even when I changed my mind (quite a few times) or told her a particular style wasn’t my taste & sent her back to the drawing board, she never complained. Totally professional. I even sent her my hand drawn, very rough sketches, & inspiration photos of what I wanted. And she & the engineers design plan exceeded my dreams Fortunately, I was assigned a site supervisor, Chuck, who is as meticulous as I am about having things done right; ok maybe he’s a little more meticulous than me. I’m sure his spirit animal is a pitbull & I mean that in the best possible way But Chuck’s expertise & years in construction provides him a solid foundation for holding the subcontractors feet to the fire! He was my voice & advocate for making sure the subcontractors followed through & met Nelson’s high expectations of building a quality product. Beyond that, because my home was occupied during the construction, he made sure I knew when the subcontractors would be on site & that my property was secured upon their departure. He really went the extra mile to oversee this project from start to finish. He is the epitome of what a site supervisor should be. There were a lot of challenges with the pool subcontractor but Chuck & the Nelson team made certain things were up & running for me before I signed off on that aspect of the project. I don’t care what your budget is, if you’re anything like me you just want to know that you’re getting what you pay for. My family & I are in love with the quality of our outdoor space & we are ecstatic that after years of being in this home we finally have FL resort style living right in our backyard! At some point I’d like to have my primary bedroom expanded & you know who I’ll be calling?? You guessed it, Nelson Construction!

Very professional and easy company to work with for our home addition. We expanded the kitchen of our two bedroom Florida bungalow by knocking down an exterior wall. Also adding an office. I was super nervous about the project, considering the weather and exposure of the house, but Jesus, the GC, was amazing. He sent me photos everyday and kept me updated with texts since we were not living there during the project. The new addition is gorgeous and solid. Also notable was the quick response time of the owner, Greg, anytime I had a question. The ease of working with Ashley for purchases. The friendly help of Pam, for paying the invoices. All of the subcontractors that Nelson uses are above expectation. Project went smooth and they accommodated all my change orders in record time. Will use again for bathroom reno. We had our initial contact with Greg Nelson in May of 2021. Our goal was to convert our 1979 duplex into a single family home. It took until 10/2022 to get everything approved with the city/county. Once done Nelson Construction was quick to get the project started! Joe was our construction supervisor. He started off handling a lot of the demolition and re-engineering of the structure. Then Chuck Hammons stepped in towards the end of April 2023. Chuck has worked very hard in making sure all the fine details are taken care of. He’s a great asset and really cares about the product he produces. We’ve had quite a few twists and turns but he, along with Greg, have helped us overcome these obstacles. Chuck promised to get us into the house for Christmas and he kept that promise. We still have some cabinetry and finishing touches to be done but the house is beautiful and very livable. I’m confident that Gabor, who does their cabinets, will do a great job in finishing them. Thank you all for working hard to get us into our home! I’ve attached the original structure picture so you can see what they were working with to get it to it final product!

We’d hire them again in a heartbeat. They fully renovated a family home for us in Dunedin. New roof, windows, fixed many issues, expanded the house to three bedrooms, and gave it a full makeover. All within the agreed budget and ontime. After the project they followed up on their work. Jesus took great care in watching over the property. Greg the CEO was always available to us. Really a first class team. Don’t look any further. This is the solution you need.

We would definitely hire Nelson Construction and Renovations, Inc again without reservation. Their entire team was effectively dedicated and responsive to our needs despite a global volatile disrupted supply chain and pandemic-driven environment. We were very impressed by their agility and ability to adjust to changes driven by outside forces while they provided options and expert advice at reasonable costs and timelines. Our project included a major kitchen renovation for our recently purchased single-family home which was built in 1968. The home had only one previous owner and while it had been well maintained, needed the expected (and some hidden and unexpected) electrical and plumbing upgrades. We opened up walls to create a fully open space environment and are very pleased with the end results achieved collaboratively with Nelson's expert team.

I signed an agreement with Nelson Construction to renovate my kitchen and create an open concept living space. They did an amazing job. My expectations were definitely exceeded. The entire Nelson team is top notch. Dominique did an outstanding job on project management and Juan, Frederick, Kevin, Diane, Yokasta, Gabor, and Pam made the entire process go as smoothly as possible. I highly recommend them for any home renovation project.

Nelson Construction has been working on our home remodeling project. My wife and I are very impressed. The job foreman, Jesus has been on our job site nearly every day from roughly 7:00 A.M. He has been expertly overseeing and coordinating the many subcontractors with a smile. I highly recommend Nelson Construction as we have been very happy with all of the staff that we have communicated with throughout our project. Supply chain bottlenecks have made constuction more challenging and Nelson Construction has done an admirable job working through them.

Overall, Nelson was a delight to work with. I have no hesitation in recommending them. Our finished product (room addition) is of high quality and meets our expectations and vision. One of Nelson's strengths involves their open and uninterrupted communication to the customer. We always knew where things stood and what was happening next. One of their strongest assets is appointing a Site Supervisor to be involved with us every step of the way. If not daily, we saw our Site Supervisor (Eli) every week. He was extremely patient with us and didn't seem to mind answering the myriad of questions that we threw at him. Toward the end of the job I must admit that we were disappointed with the quality of work exhibited by a few of the sub-contractors. To Nelson's credit, they were Johnny On The Spot and made things right. In the end, it all worked out to our satisfaction. Would we hire Nelson again? A definite and resounding "Yes".

Very unethical company and it comes from the top with the owners Greg and Dominique Nelson. The owners will lie and steal your hard earned money. Do not use Nelson construction renovations inc! We signed a design build contract for a home remodel that I paid over $13600 for Nelson constructions in house designer to come up with a design with a budget of 300-400k After several months of going back and forth with the design nelson construction and renovation presented us, we are told the design nelson construction came up with is now double or triple the budget of 300-400k. At that point Jan 20th 2021 we called a meeting with the owners Greg and Dominique to discuss a solution that if the revised plans grew out of budget, then we will go back to the original draft Nelson construction presented us on December 3rd 2020 before any revisions were made. That is when they lied right to our face and tried to say it was all a misunderstanding about the budget and what we wanted. We realized then what Nelson construction presented us as the 1st draft wasn’t even able to be done within the notes and budget. So they lied and breached the contract from day one. Everything was in writing so the excuse of not understanding is unprofessional and petty. (In business you make it right to the customers especially when it’s the company that dropped the ball) It’s not like I came to nelson construction with a house plan drawn up and wanted it built for a certain price. This is the plan they gave us that should of been within the budget discussed in detail at our house in October 2020 before we signed. Just look at the reviews across the board this is a pattern with their company this is not the 1st time they do unethical work. This will not be the last until enough people realize what they do. Stay away from this company! I know from all other reviews they will respond to this with a whole bunch of words and lies to try and spin it around on the customers and how they are sorry it didn’t work out and good luck. All I wanted is my money back for the design build contract they breached and only received $3500 of the $13,600 total ! Had Nelson construction done the right thing and paid me back for their mistake then I wouldn’t have had to let the public know how Nelson construction treats a paying customer who did not get what they paid for. I have all text and emails if anyone wants to hear more of how they treated my wife and I please reach out I’m more than happy to share everything. I don’t want anyone else to have to go through what my wife and I did the last 5 months.

My advice is to look elsewhere when you are building a home from the ground up. We would not hire them to even fix their warranty work. Very disappointed in our brand new homes construction and finish work. Look else where.

We would hire Nelson construction again without hesitation. The entire team, from the unseen to the seen, were dedicated, responsive, respectful, and patient while we lived through a beautiful renovation.

I hired Nelson Construction & Renovations for a major renovation of my 3 bedroom condo. The condo was very dated and not only needed a major facelift, we were faced with excessive mold issues due to Hurricane Irma. The Nelson Construction Team designed the new look and completely gutted the entire condo down to the concrete walls. Once all the mold was removed, air quality was tested and the unit was reconstructed with materials to not absorb moisture including the drywall. The designer captured my style immediately and helped me pick out all interior materials, hardware, cabinetry, etc. The cabinetry was custom and made in-house to perfection. Nelson managed the entire project from beginning to end. Nelson complied with city permitting and always passed inspection at every step of the project. I definitely recommend Nelson as your team when undergoing a new build or renovation.

My wife and I searched for 2+ years to find a contractor we felt comfortable with to do our whole house remodel. After meeting with Greg Nelson and a few members of his team we knew we had someone we can trust, was knowledgeable, confident they could get the changes we wanted to make done. They shared project photos, gave us references we could contact. I personally spoke to several who had similar jobs done, all were very satisfied with the quality of the work, and most of all the professionalism of the staff. They were right all the folks involved were Great, logistics, purchasing and design ideas. We started the project mid summer 2017, and the were back in our "NEW" home 16 weeks later on time! My wife and I enjoy the house more and more each day! Thank you Team Nelson!

We hired Nelson Construction for an addition and total home remodel. We went with the total design build option as we felt that would be best for our timeline and budget. I had just had a baby and my husband was finishing his Masters so this was quite a transition period to be starting a large project such as this. I trusted them and felt at ease with them from day one. They got my vision and helped me to facilitate it. From going with me to pick up salvaged wood for my ceiling beams and coming through when a vender failed to deliver on doors we ordered on time, the customer service was above and beyond. Going into this project, it seemed like everyone we knew wanted to tell us a horror story about their contractor. I love telling them now that we love our contractor and we would definitely hire them again.

Nelson Construction and Renovations just completed a project that officially started in January of 2016 and ended with a beautiful and customized home for my husband and me in April of 2016. Words cannot explain how happy we were/are with Nelson Construction, beginning with Greg Nelson himself and his entire team of professionals that run the office and the job site. We highly recommend Nelson Construction and Renovation, Inc. We are totally satisfied customers. Nelson Construction will always be our first recommendation to friends who want to build. Our project was the 2014 renovation and expansion of a 600 square foot 1950s bungalow in Safety Harbor’s historic district. Our goal was to create a space suitable for full-time living while preserving the character of yesterday’s bungalow. Our plan was to renovate the existing home, including a complete redo of the kitchen and bath. We also added another bedroom, bath, laundry room, and outside deck. The square footage was doubled to 1200. We selected Greg Nelson as our contractor after weeks of interviewing candidates and comparing estimates based on our architect’s plan. Greg was not the least expensive, but we were impressed with his up-front cost projections and his appreciation of the value of historic preservation. We were also influenced by the fact that he worked with a client representative, Rick Smith of Home Under Control. Since we would not be in Safety Harbor while the project was under construction, we felt it was important to have someone who could visit the site weekly and provide us with photographs and progress reports. As absentee owners, we felt we needed this service for our own peace of mind. We are glad that we opted for this service. We developed a $250,000 budget in consultation with Greg. We wanted to purchase our own appliances, cabinets, and fixtures to reduce our costs. Greg was very flexible and agreed to this. While no project is without surprises, Greg helped us think ahead and keep change orders to a minimum. Good communication is the key to a smooth project, and Greg was very good in this department. He responds promptly and keeps close tabs on his Project Managers. He is easy to work with and has a great sense of humor. He cares about preservation of historic features and quality workmanship is very important to him. Customer satisfaction is primary. He knows his business. There are always small issues which crop up after one thinks the project is complete. For this reason, Greg offers a one year warranty on workmanship and certain materials. We waited for a year to write this review so we could comment on how his company responded to these issues. Greg did not disappoint. Not only does he deserve a five star rating for quality construction, he also gets five big stars for coming back to fix minor problems. Nelson Construction is my favorite GC that I have hired over the years. They do high quality work. They are very professional. They are extremely responsive. I received a text from the project manager nearly every day letting me know their progress and if anything unexpected came up. I can tell that they really cared that I was completely satisfied and provided me with a great product and even added in a few things that were beyond my expectations.

We had severe damage from a leak in our home. Though I have a background in the trades, this work was far beyond my capabilities. I could leave my home daily and not worry the work was being done correctly. I returned without the impulse to quickly check to see what needed to be corrected. They were totally open to my design suggestions and worked hard to give me what I wanted - and without the intention to make me feel like I did not know what I was talking about. The results are gorgeous! Sturdy! And Clean! I am told by friends and family they have never seen a more beautiful shower; floor, or rooms. Nelson Construction did an amazing - on schedule and in budget - job on my project, They went over and above what was requested and produced a beautiful space. Loved them and would definitely hire them again!

Nelson construction did not deliver, at all. A large 50% deposit was required to start the renovations and the entire project was filled with errors and was completely unsupervised, materials were not ordered on time. Instead of making amends, the owner lowered himself by bullying the homeowner over the phone upon realizing that his sub-contractors could not deliver the job 6 weeks later for a project that required 2 weeks time. On the eve of his deadlines, pictures of the numerous faulty works and unfinished projects were forwarded to him without comment, he responded with a picture of himself smiling, if not to say laughing, at the homeowner at the wheel of his truck. We've been had by a pro in anything but construction. I highly recommend NEVER to use Nelson construction.

The BEST! We have a house that was built in 1925 and have done numerous renovation projects over the last 10 years. Our most recent project was to rebuild a bridge from the back house upstairs bedroom to a bedroom in the main house. The Nelson team is super professional and their work is impeccable. Out of all the contractors we've used these guys by far had the very best communication skills and stayed in tight communication with us throughout the project so that we were never wondering where they were or how much longer it would take or any of the numerous mysteries that come along with doing renovations! I highly recommend them!! Seriously.... we have a ton of experience with contractors - we've even built a building from the ground up once... Nelson Construction is far above any team we've ever worked with. We will do our next project with them of course!

Nelson Construction handled all the construction work needed for our new house, including plumbing and electrical, as well as framing and window installation. They were on time, very courteous, and friendly. We were living in the house at the time, and I have three kids who were fascinated by them and their work, and they were great with my kids as well. We hired Greg Nelson to take a run down 1939 cottage and completely gut and rebuild it without expanding the envelope. He preserved original details and gave it a fresh coastal contemporary look without breaking the bank. He leveled floors, straightened walls, hurricane-proofed the roof, added all new high-efficiency windows and skylights, cement siding for fireproofing, cathedral ceilings, and hardwood floors throughout. We added exposed ducting a/c, tankless hot water, and a gorgeous fireplace. Greg custom built the entire kitchen with handmade cabinetry, his specialty concrete counters, and clever storage solutions. Greg, Richard, David and the rest of his team are the best construction and trim crew we have ever worked with. We look forward to hiring them again for our next house!

I am a freelance trouble-shooter, project manager and client services rep in the Pinellas County area of Florida. I help my clients develop a project through education and introductions to professional all along the way. When its time, I help them pick the contractor, in this case, Nelson Construction and Renos. This was a large addition as well as upgrade to a quaint cottage on a property constrained by wonderful oaks. Though the clients' out of state architect developed the design, we brought in a local firm to interpret and comply with local requirements. From beginning to end Greg Nelson and his crew produced first rate results or stepped in quickly and effectively if a sub missed a beat. Their attention to detail and the personal care and communication of the staff, lifted the clients' satisfaction to a whole new level. Imagine sitting down for an hour and a half with the clients almost a month after the punch was complete and not hearing of a single loose end. I had just bought a new house and was getting a quote to have my kitchen redone and they gave me a very reasonable quote which inlcuded all that I wanted done. The person who quoted me was very knowledage and I could tell had been doing this for a long time. I had been shopping around to get the best price and they were able to beat all of the other prices that I had gotten. Also, I was shown some of the other work that they have done and it was absolutely perfect! I attached one of the images from another location that they had sent me. In the end I didn't get this work done becuase my house loan had to be done differently and I wasn't able to inlcude the renovations in the loan. I am now saving up to get this done for my new house which I perchased last year.
