I got Mary's name through a friend who is really happy with what she did with her house redesign. Mary helped me with an addition. She is professional, prompt, and listens to what we wanted in the addition. I'm very pleased with her work.

Mary Young, owner of 309design, helped us with a bathroom project in our 1943 home. As skilled do-it-yourselfers, this was our first time working with a designer. Mary carefully listened to our goal of creating a contemporary bathroom that would blend with the style in our home. We were introduced to products we were previously unaware of but that were perfect, and to our contractor, B Lawrence Homes, who was terrific. Based on work we had done ourselves over the years, we expected project surprises, but uncovering 3 layers of wall tile completely changed things. We went from tile preservation to rethinking walls, the vanity and floor. Mary helped us work with the contractor to navigate the materials and color changes and turned what was a real challenge into a feature. The new bathroom and serene colors complement and coordinate with other rooms in the house. It was fun working with someone who understood when we wanted to do our own research on certain aspects of the project but who was always there to provide guidance. Mary’s Masters in Interior Design is reflected in her skill and creativity in designing a visually appealing space with components work well together. 309design turned what might have been a so-so bathroom upgrade into a beautiful, functional room.

Mary is an amazing listener, communicator, and a true pro! We have a small business that needed design help and sprucing up. She considered all our thoughts and was extremely easy to work with and very professional. She made sure we were staying on our budget and fully aware of next steps in executing the plan. I highly recommend Mary of 309 Designs. She played an integral part of our kitchen renovation from planning to execution. Mary did an amazing job coming up with multiple ideas to maximize our space. Mary took on our design project when no one else would. We did a first floor renovation which included full kitchen and living space renovation, removal of load bearing posts, an addition, and a master bathroom renovation. Mary helped us find a great general contractor after several month of struggling to find a GC who wanted the job. She listened and understood our aesthetics and made design plans consistent with those. I was easily overwhelmed by choices, so Mary did a great job of offering a limited number of options. She was always responsive to feedback and willing to change directions, find more options, or reconsider a design element. Mary was prompt, on-time and helped keep our project moving. She communicated with our GC and subcontractors. She came by the house and monitored progress. She took care of design elements so that I did not even need to think about them (where exactly the kitchen island should be, how big the couch should be for the space, what size vent hood we needed). I cannot say enough positive things about working with Mary and her work product. I am more than 100% satisfied with her design elements, her decorative elements and our working relationship. I can't imagine that our renovation project would have been nearly as successful and on-time if we had not worked with Mary.

Mary is a miracle worker! She took a room that was an odd shape with a piano in it that could not be moved, and turned it into a warm, inviting and highly functional space with much needed versatility. She is talented, dedicated and took my budgetary needs into consideration as well. I highly recommend her and her team!

We loved working with Mary. She came up with a plan that left no doubt that she listened to what we wanted. For the decor, she helped us pick out items that were "us" but incorporated her good taste and knowledge of the industry. Her architect background was super helpful for designing an extra outdoor space that we will incorporate in our next phase of the project . She was easy to get ahold of and always responded quickly to our questions. And she was patient with us first-timers and our questions.

Mary did a wonderful job in created a design for my husband’s new office. She designed custom built in bookcases and did a design for his abundant artwork. Very happy with her designer eye.. especially since my eye for scale is off!!! She made the project easy and beautiful. So glad we hired her!!!

I found Mary by accident after another designer blew me off. Mary was outstanding from day one. She met with me for a free consultation and was up-front and honest about her rates (which I believe are very reasonable, given the quality of work provided) and about potential and very real project costs and worked with me make some changes to the architect's original plans (both in terms of cost saving and beautifying) - Changes that really made all the difference in the world! I leaned heavily on Mary's expertise, fantastic taste and great advice and the final plans are really so much better than I could have imagined. Mary is an excellent designer and very customer focused. I love the way she prepares her designs and provides concept boards so that you can visualize how your project will look and make it easier to decide on styles, colors, etc. I first hired Mary to help with a special project to reupholster dining room chairs and update a China cabinet which were my mothers. Her work was beautiful and meticulous and turned out better than I imaged. She also helped update our bathroom and living room.

Mary, did an excellent job in developing a color palette to paint the downstairs of my home. My painting project starts June 29th and I couldn’t decide on colors. I needed a color consultant ASAP. She came over the same day I spoke with her on the phone. The colors she picked out are gorgeous! She expertly knew which colors would go best in a room. She also explained why certain colors would or wouldn’t work. Mary is very knowledgeable and I learned about making color choices. I can’t wait to see the final results. I am very happy! We cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Mary. We started an extensive house renovation in January 2020. The renovation included: a new kitchen, 2 new bathrooms, lower-level change of floor plan, transforming a half bath in a full bath, and new hardwood floors. We were feeling quite overwhelmed with myriad of decisions that we needed to make and can’t express enough gratitude towards the job that Mary did for us. I utilized Mary's design services to help decorate & furnish a new home. I have been very happy with the results from the first phase of our project together. She was able to take my desires for the space and provide several design & furniture options for me to pick from. Mary was very conscientious about staying within my budget and was flexible to hunt for additional options if I wanted to see something different. She did a great job mixing and matching inexpensive pieces with more expensive pieces and was quick to contact me when she found a sale or good deal for something that we were looking for. Mary has been a fantastic interior designer and professional to work with over the past year as we needed her expertise with fixing up our old house to sell and even more so with moving into our new townhouse which had a basement, guest room and guest bath build outs plus lighting, furniture inventory/placement and built-in cabinetry designs. We learned about Mary Young from our trusted contractor and his recommendation was spot on! Mary assisted us in the design of two simultaneous bathroom renovations. What I loved most was her willingness to really listen to my own goals. She took pages of notes and looked at pictures of ideas I had but had no idea how to pull together myself. We contacted Mary via Houzz to help us with a kitchen design for a very challenging space. She did an excellent job in listening to our needs and wants and took the time to evaluate our personal style so she could present us with a design that was compatible with our house and us. We recently completed a full kitchen remodel and family room update and had the pleasure of working with Mary Young of 309design. We're absolutely thrilled with the end result! We are so grateful for Mary's excellent design work and for her guidance and communication throughout the project. Mary collaborated with us by listening to our initial ideas and preferences, making practical and creative suggestions and then developing initial drawings and renderings to help us visualize the different design options. She did a lot of leg-work to narrow down back splash tile and counter top choices, which we appreciated. To compliment the cabinetry in the kitchen, Mary also designed both a new surround mantel for the fireplace in our adjoining family room as well as a dry bar with floating shelves. Mary of 309 Design did a fantastic job! I shared with Mary a few ideas and she put together a design and color scheme that brought the project to life. So I was skeptical about hiring a designer. We were already spending so much money. But honestly I was amazed at the level of detail and the sourcing she provided. Like who would of thought of a lighting plan? She is really focused on creating and helping you put your ideas and visions together. My husband and I had some idea of what we wanted but couldnt really put it down on paper. Mary delivered. We will be using her again for further rennovations and additions.

Mary Young recently helped us with replacement curtains for windows in our living room, dining room and bedroom, and with selection of paint colors for our kitchen and adjacent powder room and laundry room. It was a pleasure to work with Mary. She was very responsive to our preferences, and gave us great advice as to colors and styles that coordinated with our taste and existing decor.

We absolutely made the right choice when we selected Mary Young to assist us with a facelift for our condo. She listened carefully to what we wanted to accomplish before making her suggestions. They included clever arrangements of display items, new decorative throw pillows, several changes in lampshades, and a rearrangement in the entrance hall with something special which we’d been searching for that she found for us! We asked her to do the shopping and she agreed to that. Over a period of a couple of months, Mary found beautiful throw pillows that added so much to the room. She spent a lot of time bringing a variety of lampshades in and out till we all agreed on just the right ones for a number of lamps. The entrance hall was transformed as was the computer area. We are beyond delighted with the results. And I can assure you that beginning to end, working with Mary is fun, pleasant, and results guaranteed!

I found the April 2018 blog on Mary's website about “Designer or GC” very informative and helpful; but even better was the experience of working with Mary. To anyone trying to decide whether or not to incorporate a designer into their renovation project, I resoundingly recommend Mary be considered for the design work! When my husband and I finally decided it was time to update our kitchen and master bath, we really had no idea what we were getting into. What proved to be so valuable at the start though was Mary’s understanding of our home and how she offered ideas that looked like they always belonged in the house, but with a fresh twist. And she listened to us, so carefully.
