Metes & Bounds Landscape Design

Excellent landscape design and execution. We have worked together on several high end projects between 2016 and 2018 and his designs were well received and the installations were seamless. Alan also helped us with our personal residence where he made great hardscape recommendations working with our existing conditions and after two seasons of growth our house is even better than we expected.

We contacted several companies to demo and install a new flagstone patio for us, but we were never thrilled with what they proposed to do. We finally decided to hire Alan Skipper, a professional landscape architect and at the end of the day it was money well spent. Alan listened to our ideas very carefully and patiently worked with us in developing a design we truly loved. He then contacted his circle of gifted and experienced professionals…. stone masons, carpenters et al who all worked very well with each other to see the project thru as it was designed to be. It was so nice to have Alan running the show. Alan was very easy to work with and was very approachable and available throughout the process. Any time we had a question or concern he took care of it with a smile on his face …no attitude…no problem…..This was such a contrast to the unpleasant experiences we have had in the past with pushy contractors from previous renovations and was so appreciated. We hired Metes and Bounds Landscape Design for 2 projects in our backyard. The first area consists of a beautiful flagstone patio and fire pit with gorgeous stone steps leading into a secluded area surrounded by large Cryptomeria tress. There is a cedar hot tub back there too with thick stone steps used to get Into the tub. We loved it so much that we asked him to design the area around a new pool. Alan designed a terrace from the house with a double staircase to the pool deck. All done in verged PA bluestone. The planting a and tress look like they have been there forever. He continued with more Crytomeria and added River Birches as well. It is natural, rustic and gorgeous. Everyone wants to know who designed it!

We worked with Alan on 2 landscape projects for our home in late 2014 and again in early 2015. 1st project was a design for slate paths, patio area, re-routed driveway, gravel parking area and a detailed map of existing plants and trees. This was completed in conjunction with Alan working with our general contractor's teams. 2nd project was a detailed landscape design and installation of plants and trees that Alan and his team completed. It looks great. We had a small issue with his irrigation subcontractor setting the water levels too high on some of the new plants that Alan eventually had to replace, but all is good now. Alan is very detailed, knowledgeable and is focused on customer service. I would hire Alan again and would recommend him to others.

Alan Skipper and his Landscape Design firm, Metes & Bounds met each of our expectations. From beginning to end we were pleased with the thoughtful and professional delivery of Alan and his team. We were notified in advance of the work to be performed throughout the time frame we were told. The crew was exceptionally hard and steady working competing the work within the established parameters. The plans and drawings,well delivered, are an asset to possess for the future much as home plans are saved. I have work with Alan on many projects over the years. Alan's abilities are from start to finish. Alan puts a lot of efforts in tho the design phase which leads to an installation schedule that move along a construction path that is smooth and level. Alan's designs ideas give a finished product that appears as though the plantings ware meant to be there in the landscape vs a planting that is out of place and disjointed. Alan is among the top LAs that I have worked over the past twenty years.

I am a carpenter who has worked with Metes & Bounds. The carpentry details designed by M&B fit perfectly with the over all scope of the project. Specifically in regards to an Italian style villa, for which M&B designed a large curved pergola and some beautiful exterior gates. M&B keeps an overall view of the project to make sure the individual elements come together for the desired effect, while at the same time giving attention to the smaller details that matter for each piece. Quality is expected of sub-contractors, like myself, and delivered to the client. M&B is easy to work with, allowing for conversation and really walking through the designs to make sure we are producing what is both beautiful and functional. I would highly recommend M&B.

Alan is an extremely talented and knowledgable Landscape Architect. From the initial consultation with the client he will work to understand their wants and needs and create a landscape plan that compliments the homes architecture and is in harmony with the surrounding nature. He knows how to listen and interpret your ideas. I'm a professional landscape contractor. A few years ago I was told that I would be getting the design AND install job for a large estate. Later, I was told that the design part of the job had been given to someone else but that I might be able to do the install work. I wasn't high on the idea because it meant I'd have to work with the landscape designer who had been chosen over me. I wanted the install job, even if it wasn't my design, so I agreed. On the day I met Alan Skipper of Metes & Bounds, I wanted NOT to like him. After all, I wanted the design job that had been given to him. He shook my hand, introduced himself, smiling the whole time. Seriously, after speaking with him, going over the plans, I thought; what a nice guy. Alan is genuine... and that's what you really like about him. And his design plans were excellent. Very well thought out with a nice flow across the entire landscape. And, it's not just that aspect. After getting to know Alan a bit, this guy really and truly cares about his design and he really wants to do the best job possible. That's impressive. And sadly, it's rare. I've been in this line of work since 1981.
