Blurring the lines between art and design, Melissa Borrell’s work explores the ideas of space, perception, color and form through jewelry, home accessories, innovative interior products and sculpture – challenging the definitions that divide these categories. A native Texan, Melissa has lived in many cities around the globe. As a self-taught jewelry designer, she opened her first jewelry studio in San Francisco in 1999, selling her work to galleries and retailers across the cuntry. Upon completion of her MFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2005, she established Melissa Borrell Design to present her unique visual style and ideas to the world. The Austin-based studio is recognized as one of the top young design companies in the country, with private and public art and product design commissions ranging from Hyatt Hotels to the City of Austin. With the introduction of the first Pop-Out™ Pendant in 2006, Melissa Borrell’s unique look attracted global attention from leading design shops and museum stores, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the Getty Center in Los Angeles, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Published in several books and periodicals highlighting modern design, her work is fresh, innovative and sophisticated. With extensive experience in design innovation, development, and marketing, Melissa Borrell Design welcomes partnerships with other companies and designers to work on developing unique products, innovative interiors or creative concepts. Melissa is intrigued by different materials and perspectives and thrives on the challenge of developing a new idea.
