Julie was recommended to us by a friend. At first we were interested in hiring her to help us design our kitchen, but after we started remodeling our two bathrooms and found a lot of water damage and other issues, we asked her for help with them as well. She was able to take the same square footage as we had before for the bathrooms and reconfigure the entire space to give us the best usage of the small area. The remodel included several recessed cabinets. The bathrooms are perfect! The kitchen was an awkward sitting room/galley, designed in 1965 that had a few updates done to it over the years. It was unimpressive. I wanted a large center island but had no idea how it could be done. Julie came up with the perfect design. The kitchen is more than I ever expected, it is my dream kitchen. Julie had patience with me. She never was pushy about her ideas she worked with me educating me along the way. She was fantastic to work with. The project was less stressful with Julie's expertise. She is a professional in her field and is respected by her suppliers.

We have used Julie numerous times over the past 15 years or so. Our first project was a new bar in our basement that came out exactly as we envisioned. Beautiful job for sure! After that it was a full kitchen remodel, an outdoor patio area, a complete facelift for our office building and most recently she was a designer with us on the interior and exterior design of Trails to Ales Brewery. We recently completed a major kitchen /dining room renovation project and couldn't be happier with Julie's work. After gutting the existing kitchen and dining room, we were at a loss as to exactly what design would work best for our space. Julie arrived on the scene and, after a few measurements and some conversation about what we wanted in a new kitchen, came up with the perfect design and layout. Julie approached our project with professionalism and enthusiasm to keep working until we were completely satisfied. She and our contractor worked well together and gave us exactly what we wanted. I love my new kitchen and can't thank Julie enough for her hard work and diligence in getting the job done. We would highly recommend Julie Graf and One of a Kind Design.

Do not use this service under any circumstance, unless you want to flush your money down the drain. She claims she works with architects and engineers - I seriously have my doubts that this is true. $700 for "drawings" (I use the word drawings loosely) that were not even close to being accurate in measurements. She told us that we couldn't change our window sizes or locations because it would make the building structurally unsound (total BS). When her assistant called (after we tried to email her several times to an address that won't accept most messages) and we informed her of our unhappiness with the quality of work so far and we wanted a refund, Julie called and said that there wasn't any refunds because the work she did was worth thousands more than what she charged us....we never heard from her again. DO NOT USE HER!

Wow. I am really sorry you are having issues with your project, but I feel your review is unfounded. I hope that you would realize that the issues you have had are not of my accord, rather the result of decisions you have made for yourself and the contractors you have hired.
When I arrived at the project, I found you had already gutted the entire house with no regard to structural parameters. I gave you expert advice and opinion as to what should be done to salvage the house and make the best possible use out of it based on your intent. I provided you with drawings for 3 floors including an additional garage/mudroom, plus 2 layout options for the kitchen and upstairs bathroom-along with 3D views. These drawings and dimensions were based on the conditions when I arrived at the house and were so noted.
You had indicated to me you could not get any contractors to consider the project with the exception of someone you had lined up to underpin the house-reputation unverifiable. A reputable contractor would have been able to apply the parameters of the drawing to the field conditions easily. I am not sure what went wrong if not, as I had no connection with that person, nor did they OR you call me with any questions.
In addition, I called you and sent you emails and text messages to follow up on the drawings and space planning which you never replied to until my assistant happened to reach you. At that time, you told her you really had no idea what you were looking at with the drawings, but again, you never reached back out to me with any questions.
Considering your lack of communication, repeated unwillingness to heed any of my advice, and refusal to obtain a legal construction permit contrary to my explicit direction, I found it best for me to completely remove myself from your project. My reputation is to give sound advice, creative ideas, and work with only reputable trades people who operate with regard to building codes and laws, and I do not wish to have that compromised by trying to help you out of your mess.
While I do hope you get your project issues resolved and can move forward, I am not sorry for moving on.

Julie has been very helpful during our entire house remodeling project. Over the years we have transformed an old farm house into a cedar cabin. Initially she created our kitchen and bathroom designs and then progressed into the overall floor and electrical plans. Through the process I enjoyed her way of thinking outside the box and developing unique design elements to give our house the wow factor I was looking for and have seen her do in other projects. She is very resourceful for choosing wall and flooring options and especially helpful at a moment's notice with any contractor or various design questions along the way. I am very thankful she has been there for me and consider her a dear friend.

We wanted to update our kitchen but had no idea how. We were referred to Julie Graf and boy were we lucky! She had great ideas. She helped us to see the bigger picture. We didn’t want to replace our kitchen cabinets, so she made suggestions of countertops, backsplashes, paint colors and accessories, then helped us choose. Then she took care of everything-ordering, workers, etc. since that partnership worked so well, we asked Julie to redesign and update our bathroom. It looks fabulous!!!

Julie designed our craftsman style kitchen. There were many challenges involved during the process. The most critical of which was incorporating architectual requirements of support with adapted design. At each turn, Julie made suggestions that not only met the architectural requirements but also those of our vision. She also addressed efficiency and function that added to the beauty of the kitchen, even more than what we had hoped. We highly recommend Julie for any design job. One of a Kind Design brought my project to a completely different level than we had originally imagined. Julie added a level of sophistication through her experience with varying building materials and her level of professionalism that changed the project for the better. All though we did not always agree with every detail, she would continue to dig until we can upon a solution that not only looked excellent, but kept our wants and needs at the forefront of the project. Having a designer on board was different than i expected. Mostly, she was a guide. Sort of having a guide in the woods, someone who had been there before.

We feel so blessed to have found Julie on this Houzz site. Purchasing a home that was more than 100 years old in another state was a challenge in itself. From the day we had the inspection done ,to the day we were able to spend the first night there ,Julie was instrumental in making it happen. She has impeccable taste , is incredibly organized and hard-working. I joked with her that I think her best ideas and solutions must come to her in the wee hours. Trying to manage a re-construction/restoration from out of state is challenging. Julie made it easy and she oversaw all of the vetting of the contractors . She provided several options and did the plan for kitchen and baths . She was very responsive to all of our questions and second-guessing on things . She sent pictures throughout the process. With all of the things we wanted to do , budget was an issue and she was creative and even found a way for us to get custom cabinetry in our kitchen. One of my favorite things is the honed carrera marble kitchen counters. Julie was so detailed and committed to finding the perfect backsplash to complement the counters .Now that the inside is complete, we are getting excited to start on the exterior. Julie has artistic insight, technical skill, and kind patience. I came to rely extensively on her advice. Often, she knew what I wanted before I did. I was completely renovating the 70 year old cabin my grandparents built and was anxious and hesitant. Julie was always available, tireless, and confident that every problem had an ideal solution. She brought flooring samples and countless pieces of paneling for the interior walls...all out to the site, so we could see them up against the existing fireplace. Her kitchen design gave me storage options I didn't realize were possible, bright under-cabinet lighting, and unique display areas. Nobody could have worked harder to find the right countertop to blend with the reglazed, original, farmhouse-style sink. Visitors who knew the cabin before are now stunned by the changes...saying it seems larger and full of light, yet warm and inviting. We worked with Julie from the very beginning of building our custom home. So glad we had the opportunity of meeting her when we did, she is an extremely professional, bright intuitive woman. My first experience working with her was when she looked at the floor plans and made positive recommendations that affected the outcome of our home. Her personality lended itself to work well with my husband and myself but also with our builder as well as the custom cabinet maker. Julie was always met the deadlines that she promised, it seemed she worked all hours of the night to say on our time line. I'd log onto my email and she would have sent all the drawings, images detailed descriptions as promised. Phase 2 was completing our "club room Man Cave" once again hiring Julie paid off. She was available for consultation while we purchased our furniture and rugs.( We went to North Carolina to choose our furniture and rugs) We were on a time constraint to travel we were leaving for Florida from Pa and wouldn't return for 5 months. Julie chose the color scheme (which we love) continued to work with our builder and completed the entire project before we came home. What a treat to come home to a beautiful finished basement. Knowing we could trust Julie to continue to coordinate and finish the project took all the anxiety away. I realized at that point hiring an experienced decorator was well worth it.i If we hadn't worked with a professional we would have to find someone to fix our mistakes. Working with this dynamic lady was was a very positive experience.

We couldn’t have found a better partner to work with when designing our kitchen. Two frustrating years went by as we tried to create a design to fit everything we wanted into a small space. Every contractor we contacted proposed expanding the space by knocking down exterior walls. This wasn’t an option due to our budget. We needed help from a designer. Julie was recommended to us by one of her former clients. Although she was a state away, the distance wasn’t an issue. We were able to use technology to communicate our needs and wants to her. Site photos and Pinterest Boards gave Julie the information that she needed to plan our design. We spoke with her via conference calls when necessary. Within a few weeks the design was 90% complete. She made everything fit functionally within the limited space. Julie visited for a couple of days to confirm measurements and pick out the essentials – cabinets, counters, flooring, paint colors, and tile. Throughout the process she managed contractor questions, ordered everything needed for the project, and handled any problems that came up. The finished product is perfect. The Kitchen Place

I worked with Julie on a kitchen remodel for a family in Ohio. We had one meeting with the clients and then from that point on, we communicated long distance via texts and emails. Julie was wonderful to work with and I was impressed with her knowledge of kitchen design. Not all interior designers specialize in kitchens...but Julie is definitely a kitchen expert!!! She had great ideas and always found the perfect color of countertop, tile...etc. I wish she lived closer so we could work together again. The finished project turned out GREAT!

Julie not only helped design the custom ranch modular home that my parents built, she assisted in picking all of the products and colors that went in to the home. From exterior to interior, from flooring to trim, she helped coordinate the entire project. In addition, she designed the custom kitchen and master bathroom. My husband and I have been a client of Julie's several times over the last four years. She has designed a kitchen and full bath in our 1863 Italianate home as well as our latest 1971 retirement home. Julie is a delightful person with which to work. Hating to leave the wonderful pantry in our Victorian home, Julie found space for one as part of the total renovation in the smaller home we purchased for our retirement. As much as we loved our beautiful old Victorian, we are equally in love with our present home and that is directly because of Julie and her design sense. She has a wonderful sense of color and thus we have a warm, inviting home that everyone loves to visit.

Julie Graf was the designer for a full remodel of the kitchen in an older home we purchased. We are serious about food and cooking, so the kitchen had to be highly functional; in addition, we are serious about preserving the "feel" of our Victorian-era house, so the design had to take that into consideration. Julie understood those needs and created a design that perfectly blended functionality and beauty while remaining true to the overall feel of the house. She spent a good deal of time talking to us to get a deep understanding of what we wanted, consulted with us frequently to make sure we were all on the same page, and oversaw the work to make sure it was done right. Her sense of color and form helped make our kitchen virtually a showplace. People walking into the room for the first time often say things like "I want this kitchen!" The room is oddly shaped, but she created ample storage space, ample counter space, and extensive pantry-space, while maintaining a sense of spaciousness and allowing easy traffic flow. She combines brilliant technical knowledge, the ability to talk to and understand her clients, and a great aesthetic sense--exactly what you would want in a designer.
