I worked with John on a Pop Top for my 1910 bungalow near Washington Park. In the design phase of the project, John was very responsive and was very attentive to our ideas. Overall, the design was fantastic. John was able to make our bungalow look like it was originally built with 2 stories, while incorporating all of the needs of our family. During the construction phase of the project is where we ran into some issues. The Structural engineer John used, Stephen Hughes, failed to inspect my house before construction began which resulted in some costly change orders. The communication between Stephen, John, and myself was spotty at best, which resulted in delays and more expenses. Also, during the last 6 months of construction John was MIA and failed to do any followup or even see how his design was being built. So, while I really think he did a great job on the design, I would hesitate recommending him due to his overall lack of follow through during construction.

I have worked with John for over 20 years and have done more than 10 projects with him, mostly single family homes. We are currently beginning to build a 235 s.f. "tiny house" he designed which required particular creativity and attention to detail and he designed my personal residence as well. John is a careful listener, has broad experience and knowledge of construction, a great eye for detail and is a pleasure to work with.

I have been the General Contractor on dozens of jobs using American House Design architecture including custom homes, additions, remodels, and basement finishes. John's designs are outstanding and he can always make even the impossible project come to fruition. He is a true visionary that mindfully listens to his clients and manages to put their ideas and dreams into a viable, detailed oriented architectural plan. I always look forward to work on a job from American House Design!
