About Us

I'm a stone mason, designer, and musician. Stone masonry is my perfect job. It combines my love for the outdoors and physical activity, design and architecture and it provides a constantly evolving creative outlet for my restless mind. I love to learn new ways to use stone, and like music, working with stone can be a lifelong endeavor for discovery. As a Raleigh native, stone has always been present in my life. From my childhood visits to Historic Oakwood and Five Points neighborhoods with my family to touring Europe as a working musician, I was always intrigued by stone structures. Since starting Winding Path Custom Stone Masonry in 2001, stone has taken me on a challenging and creative journey. Stone has a timeless and classic feel yet lends itself to any style and I'm always willing to explore new ways to use stone. I always design and build using the style or technique that the project requires and I strive to meet a clients stylistic and practical needs.

The highest compliment for a company is to hire them for a second time. The work Graham's crew did four years ago was so spectacular that we brought them back to do a water feature, stone walls, and hardscaping. We could not be happier. The work is creative with beautiful craftsmanship. Graham and his crew are responsive, respectful, and professional. We feel lucky to have such a talented and high quality local company for our stonework.

Winding Path installed a floor-to-ceiling stacked stone surround around our fireplace. Graham was always very responsive, the entire experience was excellent, and the final product exceeded out expectations. Wow, what a difference it made! The fireplace and surround are now the centerpiece of our family room.

Graham and his team of installers were amazing from start to finish. Graham is a hands-on perfectionist who brings thoughtful creativity to your idea. Graham added on from our existing landscape to design and construct a 16' diameter stone patio with a 5' gas firepit in its center. Rain or shine, Graham was always present prior to, during and after the build. Graham deserves the highest mark for the care he puts into the project and for his customer's appreciation of the final project. We're enjoying our new addition and investment.

Graham has completed two projects for us with more to come. He transformed our hideous backyard to a gorgeous and functional living space, complete with a waterfall of rock. He consider him an artist in stone with his thoughtfulness and design abilities, and his structural integrity is second to none. His latest project was to add an eyebrow to our front yard and he always has fabulous ideas to incorporate, taking it to the next level. He communicates well and follows through with what he says. We are having him back again and I can't recommend him enough.

Working with Graham at Winding Path Custom Stone Masonry was like a breath of fresh air. He showed up when he said he would, did amazing work and did not go over the budget that we had agreed upon. He turned out mud pit of a backyard into a fabulous stone patio that includes a retaining wall and fire pit. The type of stone that he uses and his unique style of "puzzling" the pieces together is really what makes him stand out from the rest. Graham has a great attitude and was easy to work with. His rates were competitive. I would DEFINITELY hire him again or recommend him to a friend.

Graham Fry's work is incredible! His work is done with artistry, precision, and care. I recently saw a photo of stonework from a cathedral in France and noticed the floor had little to no mortar between the stones and I pointed out that my walkway, patio and garden fountain used similar principles - the stones fit together precisely, because they were cut by a master artist. Our project was a back patio with a pebble river leading to a large stone fountain and garden bordered by rocks on which you could sit. Our front walkway up to our front door reflects design elements of our back rock work, tying in the design artistically together. When we have people over they cannot believe how beautiful the work is and stare at it. Several people have told me how calm it makes them feel. Me too! The work was done on time, to spec or better (when Graham suggested improvements we often went with his ideas). The artistry is incredible.
