Dave is your design guy! He is very responsive, extremely quick on creating your concept design to final working plans, and very reasonable in pricing. Not only that, he is very knowledgeable of current and popular architecture and building code standards and provides very helpful recommendations while still being respectful and finds a harmonious 'middle-ground' to satisfy clients' design wishes. The working plans he creates are very detailed (from floor plan, to studs/joists and roofing layout, an electrical layout, rendered elevation and isometric views, and etc). Dave O'Brien was outstanding in our current project. He took the work from an architect that fell below expectations, re-worked the elevation (made it great) and even improved the interior. He was able to help provide feedback on how to improve the existing design idea, and exceeded the expectations. External elevation now looks great, interior is improved. Dave is a terrific designer, he came to our rural homesite to help us plat the home and helped us avoid a big mistake by showing us all the sun exposures, which led to a retractible wall design for the main porch. The final plans are just what we need. He is always receptive to input and his experience illuminated design flaws we were contemplating. His recommendations were spot-on. We can’t wait to build this home.

Dave was absolutely great to work with. This is the first time for us to build a house. We met with Dave at our lot, which has quite a challenging slope, and immediately liked him. We gave him an idea of what kind of house we wanted and he ran with it. He has great ideas and imagination when starting from scratch. He was very patient with us as we made changes to the original plans. Even more important, he was straightforward when an idea of ours just couldn’t work and he explained why in layman’s terms. We hired Dave to help us remodel our office building. We are in construction and know the challenges he was faced with. He took it like a champ and came up with more space than we ever imagined. He was very polite and gave great suggestions. He listened so well that we barely had any revisions. He nailed it on the first draft (which is pretty unheard of)! Dave was also very FAST! I was impressed how quickly we received the designs (again, this is unheard of in today times). I would absolutely recommend Dave for any type of project - large or small. You will be pleased!

Dave O'Brien is a DFW treasure. He has 50 years worth of experience as a builder and now lends that expertise in home remodeling and design. Beyond simply producing a set of architectual drawings describing what needed to be done, he saved me over $30,000 by suggesting smarter, more unified ways to approach the challenges associated with upgrading my old house. He is patient, stays in close contact throughout the process, and - in my case - made more than one special trip across town to meet with contractors to make sure that the initial piece of the project would be done properly. He left me with several different working versions of the floor plan to continue the planning process. I strongly suggest that anyone looking for help navigating the challenges of a major remodeling project consider speaking to Dave before deciding on a course of action.

It could not have been better. Mr. O'Brien is a true gentleman! I appreciate his honesty and his attention to detail. He seemed to intuitively know exactly what we needed. He really listens. After our initial meeting, my husband and I sketched what we wanted. Without even seeing our modest design, Mr. O'Brien came back and his design was our dream layout! We only needed to change a couple of things, and Mr. O'Brien made me feel so comfortable about those changes. He was extemely positive and happy to walk through everything with me. We wanted to hire someone to design our 2nd story addition who would not be the builder. We wanted the design to have OUR best interest on the structure, not the interest of a builder who might cut corners on structure to save money. Dave was the perfect choice! Dave is a true professional! If we ever needed an architect again, he would be the only person we would call. We needed an addition built on to our home. Dave walked the space and came up with the most creative and affordable option. We appreciated his mindset of "I won't add on to your home, unless it looks like it has always been there." 5 stars for Dave! Before our initial meeting, I was concerned that a designer would not be able to understand "the look" that I wanted. My husband and I had drawn up a rough plan of what we had in mind, and we wanted to incorporate some antique features that we had collected. Dave not only immediately understood, but was able to incorporate our pieces and made suggestions that were superb. He was always available via email or by phone when we had questions, and never made us feel like it was an inconvenience. Dave had final plans for us in record time! He has also been available to us after our plans were delivered to resolve an issue that came up. Dave is excellent at what he does, and extremely personable. I would highly recommend him, and would not consider anyone else for future projects. Stop searching and call Dave!

I spent a week looking up local architects who could complete the work. Again and again, I was told they were too busy, only do complete houses, or charged the same amount to my 600 sq ft room as they would for a 3000 sq ft house. I found Dave on Angies list, saw his great reviews, and gave him a call. He was absolutely fantastic. Saying Dave was extremely responsive to my email requests for changes is an understatement. He would literally be sending replies back, with changes complete within 30 minutes of my request. The final result was finished in around 2 weeks, which is WAY WAY WAY faster than anyone else I talked to could have turned it around. The builders who have seen his plans have all commented on how great the work is that he provided. I can't recommend Dave highly enough - I would use him again in a heartbeat.

My wife and I have purchased several previously built homes, but this is the first time we will be building a home and we have no experience with architects or builders. We were looking for an architect we could trust and someone who would guide us through the process of laying out a custom home. After searching online for architects in our area we found Dave O’Brian on the Houzz.com website. Even from our initial phone conversation we liked Dave and once we met we were immediately comfortable with him. He is personable, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Dave also has experience as a builder, which was an added bonus and became evident as we worked through each step of he plans. Dave guided us through each step, told us what to expect next and was happy to make the many changes we required. We asked his opinion on many things and he gave us honest answers that helped us make some of our decisions. Dave designed a 1300 square foot addition for our home in Fort Worth. We had previously worked with an architect who was unable to complete our project because of competing workload. We contacted Dave and he immediately jumped in tweaking the very preliminary work the original architect had produced. Dave's floorplan was a real improvement. Once we settled on the general layout, Dave provided a full set of construction plans for submittal to the City of Fort Worth. Not unexpectedly, the City wanted several additional details which Dave quickly provided. Dave was a real pleasure to work with. He was very quick, accurate and accommodating.

Fabulous and Fun architect! We had a total gut job, 3000 square foot house in Tanglewood. Dave had our plans finalized within 2 weeks. He was never delayed, always waiting on us to review each stage of the plans. 5 months later, our project is almost finished and we see what an absolute amazing job he did reworking the entire house. Now, every single bit of space is useable, well thought out, and beautifully detailed. It is a bit expensive to get such a really good architect, but very well worth it! We couldn't be more pleased with his vision and timeliness!

From our initial wish list, Dave took our ideas and created an incredible concept that addressed all our wishes, He visited our property, and within his design he took all things into consideration. While we made several changes, Dave was patient with every change. The total plan included "Material Take-Off", which ended up saving us more than the cost of plans. We cannot say enough about the quality of service and how pleasant the process was. If we ever build again, Dave will be the first person we contact.

We had the best experience working with O'brien Home Designs. I am an interior decorator and wanted to have a partner to help me design my home. Dave was very knowledgeable about the building & design process and was very patient with all my requests. He made the designing process fun. When we were interviewing prospective designers we were faced with a number of people who thought they were a better judge of what we wanted. We hired O'Brien to help us design our dream home in the country. We met with him (On the build site 170 miles from his office) and described exactly what we wanted...shape, size, floor plan layout. When he came back to us the layout was almost exactly opposite of what we asked for and you know what??? THANK YOU!!! Anyone we worked with could have done exactly what we asked for but Dave knew what we really wanted by listening to us describe our vision of the house. He's been GREAT to work with on making sure that we are happy with the results. We've built four other houses previous to this one and I can tell you he knows not only how to draw plans but also the business. Great ideas on how to save $$$ also. He's the real deal for sure.
