Sawyer is a meticulous designer and craftsman. He has a great eye for the aesthetics of a project, what complimentary materials would be and his attention to detail is bar none. We have hired SML to do a number of projects - our front deck is one of our favorite and we enjoy it daily. It included a post repair, removal of several yards of foundation gravel and then design and installation of new posts, integrated planter and "floating" IPE deck.

I contacted Sawyer, who operates DesignbySML to see if he could help me out by doing some laser engraving on a rush order custom memory box I was making. Sawyer was great to work with!!! His email communication was quick and responsive. And he squeezed me into his busy schedule with my tight timeline. The quality of his laser engraving was excellent. Sawyer knows his settings well, to not just get a lot of black soot, but instead clean, dark, crisp edges. His prices are fair. I enjoyed working with him so much that I then hired him to do a run of +20 engravings of my business name on the bottom side of panels that will become future memory boxes that I will hand make. DesignbySML created a small custom project for me, and it was a great experience. They were very responsive throughout the process, and completely focused on my needs. DesignbySML has completed two separate projects for me and my partner, and each time I've been pleased. They will definitely be my first choice for bringing our future project ideas to reality. Project one was the restoration of two vintage, mid-century modern Danish lounge chairs. One had broken seat springs, and the other had almost completely fallen apart. DesignbySML researched the original design and materials, then executed a solid repair that makes the chairs comfortable, usable and strong, while keeping their original character. For project two, I was looking for a custom butcher block top for a kitchen island. DesignbySML listened to my ideas to get an understanding of what I wanted, suggested and sourced materials to build it, then came to my home and completed the installation, bringing all necessary tools and even the oil to protect the surface over time. The finished project is perfect - exactly as I'd pictured it.
