It's rare to come across contractors like John & Walt. They care so deeply about their work, and it shows in the final product. They are meticulous, extremely knowledgeable, and always fair. I had a very large full-home remodel that lasted 2 years, and they were always on top of it. They have great communication, and they're excellent project managers. They also have a well-curated team of sub-contractors that they hold to a very high standard. I even ended up asking them to oversee my landscaping because they were so good. I have been through many remodels before, and I never ended up being friendly with the contractors afterward. I think because John & Walt not only are perfectionists, but they are extremely honest and transparent. I have a lasting trust in them, and if I ever built a home again I would call them in a heartbeat. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Changras and Frey did an extensive remodel for us, moving the kitchen from one side of the house to the other, opening up the floorplan, installing a fireplace, doors, windows and extensive plumbing work. The project took about 6 months. C&F were great to work with. The project was on time, they were dependable in terms of meeting their time/work/business commitments. The quality of work was excellent and their subcontractors were first-rate. We continue to stay in touch with C&F as they do other projects in our area, and have provided references to several other potential clients. We would not hesitate to recommend them, and we would use them again if we had another project.

We interviewed 4 contractors all referred to us by friends with high marks. John Changras and Walter Frey were the only ones where we knew more than one friend who hired them twice. They also were the only ones to actually have all of their various subs come out and give their own actual estimates for each component before they gave us their final bid. This is unheard of in my experience, and represented their commitment to do the job right and they spent more time and energy to get the bid than others. It also resulted in the costs staying true to their bid throughout with no surprises or unreasonable delays at all. Usually both John and Walt were on site early every morning, and at minimum one of them was on site daily. They were very responsive to all emails, texts, and calls. I know we were demanding at times but there was never a moment where they wouldn't respond positively to a request or go the extra mile to reach our satisfaction. We refer them to all of our friends. My husband and I highly recommend Changras and Frey for any construction projects you may have. They do and excellent job and are honest and reliable. Walt Frey listens closely as you plan your project and makes sure you are happy with the results. They clean up at the end of the day, which I loved as we were living in our home during out remodel. They billed as expected and there were no surprises at the end of the project. Our project has been completed for awhile, and I can still call Walt if there are any problems that arise in my house. Because we used Changras and Frey, we actually enjoyed the whole remodel process.

We worked with John Changras on our Master Bedroom and Bath remodel. We cannot say enough good things about John. His work is the highest quality, his subs are the highest quality, he is always available, and great to work with. •When we started, John provided a schedule of work week by week. And he stuck to that schedule almost to the day. •John only bills week by week on the work that is completed and for subs that have submitted their bills to him. No 25% payments up front, or paying off 90% of the project before half done. •John is around. We met with him every Monday morning, but in reality, he was there any day that work was happening. He worked very well with our designer, and often would consult with her when we were not available, as was our preference. •Site was very clean. •When we were within 2 weeks, we started a punchlist of issues that we saw. There were not many things, but some marks on the wall, vents not attached straight, etc. Within 1 day, he had fixed everything on the list. And there was nothing new to add to the list. To me, this really describes the highest quality of workmanship performed by John and his team. •We wanted a seamless shower – no border tile to hold water, same flooring in the bathroom into the shower, with a linear drain. John studied this early on and had a plan to meet this requirement (both for us and for the city) before the rough plumbing was installed. We also had a free-standing tub and filler planned, which also required special planning that was done very early on. We also chose faucets that have electronic touch control, that went in seamlessly. •John’s cabinet guy is by far the best cabinet maker I have seen. We wanted an 88” long, flat-front bamboo vanity with drawers and pullouts. We now have this beautiful piece of furniture, made from one piece of bamboo for the full length. There are stripes in the bamboo that flow from one drawer to the next proving that it was all cut from one piece of bamboo. I want to take this vanity with us when we move! He also built a tall cabinet for in the toilet room that is massive, and beautiful. It is clear that the space was built around this cabinet! In conclusion, I would highly recommend Changras & Frey Construction for any work, and if we just had more work to do, I would re-hire them in a second. I wouldn’t even get other bids.

Our remodeling project of 3100 square foot house is completed and we are grateful for working with a good construction team of Changras and Frey in the past 18 months. We are happy and pleased with the outcome of the project. John Changras also built 4 beautiful pieces of wood furniture for our house too. The team is continuing to do a few more projects for our yard.

Another design professional that I have worked with for over 20 years, referred me to Changras and Frey for a "small project"... a bunch of deferred maintenance tasks, a couple of relatively minor remodel items that added up but I could never coordinate all the contractors.. John and Walt never treated me like a small project! Their timeline was on-time, their budget 'on-budget', they paid attention to the big and the small (letting me know that my wayward dog was still in the house). They are professionals and on top of that, they are good guys. I still may have a major remodel or a rebuild in me - and they will be the guys I call.

We had intentions of remodeling our kitchen, bathroom, and family room for way too long...just knowing all the inconveniences and uncertainty is enough to make anyone hesitate. We talked and interviewed many people along the way; but it never quite felt right. Then we spoke with Changras and Frey and things fell into place and it just felt right. Through all phases of the job we were in capable hands. They listened to our wants and needs, always provided good honest input, and executed with professionalism and quality work. As the saying goes..."Birds of a feather flock together." The same holds true with the people who work with and for them...from flooring, plumbing, electrical and painting...all were of the same quality. This anecdote says it all: There was a very small issue with a pocket door. After the job was complete, they were not happy with it. It required a small part to be ordered. He repeatedly contacted us to install! The usual scenario is the hardship in trying to get a hold of a long-gone contractor. Not the case here! They repeatedly contacted us to schedule a mutually acceptable time for us during a demanding time for them. Who has such good post remodel stories? Who is luckier than us? We can wholeheartedly recommend Changras and Frey for a rewarding, positive experience. We are truly enjoying our new surroundings!
