About Us

Bates Design Associates is an award winning, full service interior design firm. While we specialize in high-end interiors, we work on projects of all sizes. Residential and commercial interiors continue to be our focus. Principal, Kim Bates, ASID, CID believes in the process of design: Collaboration with clients, showing them what possibilities can become reality and then carefully planning to produce sophisticated, classically elegant and welcoming spaces. We believe in the science of beauty – elements which are common to all humans and promote not only physical beauty, but a sense of well-being. In addition, we trust high-quality products and workmanship, provide highly organized management and sensibly sustainable options. Understanding of architectural elements and a wide variety of styles helps us to pull together spaces that function well and look fabulous. Kim is a licensed and award-winning designer who has worked both in state and internationally. Her work has been published in a wide range of magazines and she has been selected as finalist in HGTV’s Faces of Design. In addition, Kim is listed as one of the Top 20 Designers in Austin by Freshome.com. She has degrees in both business and interior design and has attended an interior design study tour in Europe. She is a charter Member of the Blanton Museum of Art, a member of the National Charity League, and takes part in the mentorship program at Westlake High School. She has served on the board of the Austin Community American Society of Interior Designers and the board of the Women's Symphony League. She enjoys running, golf, travel, reading and a wide range of volunteer activities.

I hired Bates Design to update my family room. I worked with Kim Bates. She recommended reupholstering my sofas, new drapes, hardware and pillows. She brought several samples in my price range for selection. The finished project is beautiful. Working with Kim was a delightful experience. She was professional as well as the people with whom she does business. I must say she makes things beautiful in an efficient and timely manner.

We have used Kim Bates in several different houses and her selections and recommendations were perfect. KIm has access to furniture and decorating items in a wide range of prices and always pointed us to the best value for our budget. Her accounting and billing is timely and accurate and her commitment to schedules and appointments is flawless....highly recommend her and will surely use her on my next home...

She has good communication skills and is very good at coordinating our work with other work that is being done at her projects. Bates Design Associates remodeled two bathrooms, as well as painted and carpeted the upstairs of my home. The two bathrooms were both older and needed new tile, counter tops, fixtures, faucets and decor. Kim helped me to select tile and marble counter tops that brought the house up-to-date and that were much more in keeping with the overall style of our home. She also helped select paint colors and a carpet color that all worked together. Her contractors were wonderful and got everything done on-time and in budget. We also added items on during the remodel (such as new doors that needed to be stained to match the house) and those things were finished along with the rest of the work. We look forward to working with Bates Design again in the future!

Kim Bates is an honorable and talented decorator. She listens to her client and accommodates the design and style the client desires. Kim is very detailed and respectful. She is able to work in a budget with great success. Kim has been blessed with the ability to not only be creative but to be able to thoroughly and honestly account for all that she does regarding your project. She is wonderful and I highly recommend her!

We hired Kim Bates of Bates Design as our interior designer when we built our custom-made home. She helped us choose every detail from the tile design and hardware to lighting and color selections. Kim is extremely knowledgeable, efficient, and professional. Eight years later, our family still loves this home and we owe so much of it to Kim!

Can't say enough good things about working with Kim! She combines the best of her art (color, shape, balance etc) with all of the know-how necessary (materials, space planning, etc) to produce knockout interiors. Bates Design Associates, LLC, did an outstanding job designing our home. Kim Bates worked closely with us to determine our preferences for both exterior and interior design. Her suggestions and ideas helped create a distinctive home reflecting our personalities. Not only was it beautiful, but totally enjoyable and livable, from the rich wood floors and imported honed French stone tiles to the relaxed surroundings of the family room with its built-in 160 gallon salt water aquarium and wood burning fireplace with granite trim and hearth. We highly recommend Kim's work, and guarantee perfect satisfaction.
