It had rotted out the sub floor in the bath, so bad that they were lucky the vanity and toilet did not go through the floor and end up in the dining room below. So we had to put new subfloor in before we can put in new tile. It also had rotted out the whole curb to the shower and that had to all be rebuilt. It also had gone behind outside wall and new dry wall need to be installed. Now this is a lot of extra work and time needed to accomplish this. And, unless we are going to do this all for FREE, you have to expect that there will be additional costs. I felt bad for him and did not charge any where near what I should have. If Mr. Weiss would like to send me the additional $1800.00 I could have charged I would be more than happy to except. The bath downstairs was having the same issues, all this was the result of the builder who he was trying to track down.
We fixed the downstairs to stop the leak. There were a lot of issues with this house and I told him he should sell and get a house that was not built by this original builder.
Grout will pit when dried and so we went back again and again to re-grout areas he was looking at through a magnifying glass. We did not one, not two but Three walk throughs with him and his wife, they signed off 100% happy and we went on our way. That project cost me a lot of time, stress and head aches, not to mention lost money.
But we did the best we could for a bad situation. And the shower door did not fit properly because they changed there tile and it did not line up with previous tile. I advised him to get a new door so they could come measure an exact measurement so it would fit properly. He chose not to do that.
I go out of my way to accommodate my customers. This was an unfortunate project for myself and Mr. Weiss. But we did absolutely nothing but try and make this man happy. Sometimes in this business you just can't and I am sorry for that.
