Of all the home renovation experiences we've had, working with Allan Homes has by far been the best one. They worked with us from design to completion, helping us along the way with professionalism, friendliness and top-notch quality. They were ahead of schedule, respectful of our time and space, and always cleaned up after themselves. When we had any questions, we got quick help and responses (including the time that our hamster escaped and we had to cut a hole in the wall and patch it back up to rescue it). It was really the best possible experience we could have had with invasive home renovation project and I couldn't recommend them more highly.

Jim and his crew were efficient, courteous, timely and cleaned up after themselves every day they worked. The final product was excellent..

I have undertaken 9 major building or remodeling projects in my lifetime and I have never found a contractor more difficult to work with than Allan Homes Unlimited in Columbia, Maryland. Although they are a custom builder; working with them required constant vigilance to detail on my part. I found that I had to show up daily to inspect what had been done that day. Way too many aspects of this latest project, a condominium renovation, had to be redone due to shoddy work. For example, in my custom kitchen, most of the cabinet doors had to be replaced by them due to the improper & inconsistent placement of cabinet handles. Worst of all was their failure to level the floor in the master bath. As a result, the new shower pan was not pitched properly and the shower did not drain. While I had specified and provided a design for an accessible shower with a two and a half inch curb; what I wound up with was a not-at-all accessible shower with a 6 inch curb. The former shower was converted to an open shelf closet and it is out of square and the walls are not straight and the four shelves are not parallel. I have a new contractor coming in to redo the closet properly. Among the many issues that came up during the renovation was the failure of Allan Homes to comply with the condominium rules about floor coverings in the common hallway, noise mitigation, and no work rules on weekends. The project manager, Jim, was particularly argumentative and created a lot of friction. He opted for cheap choices and charged for correcting them. An example of this was when he had the electrician put junction boxes in the ceiling of my expensive renovated kitchen. When I balked at having holes with plastic plates on my ceiling, he charged me to fix the wiring issue and holes. They also charged extra to replace the 30 year old electric outlets and switches in the totally renovated kitchen. Although this renovation was done during the pandemic, most of the delays were caused by poor allocation of resources and having to correct workmanship errors and then wait for replacement materials. The project went three and a half months past the agreed upon completion date. No one needs this kind of grief, especially when you are spending $$$$.

Our history with Allan Homes and Allan Homes Unlimited spans almost 30 years! From building a custom home in 1992 to extensive and creative remodeling on our current home, this company has provided us with professional services and designs. The most recent project - converting unfinished space to a professional weight room was completed on time and ready to use! Allan, Rita, Jim and company will always be special to our family. Our daughter and son-in-law recently purchased an Allan Home where our grandson took his first steps. It's ironic that our son took his first steps - in an Allan Home model - so many years ago! We would not hesitate to recommend Allan Homes Unlimited for any home remodel/renovation projects. You will not be disappointed!!

The company of Allan Homes Unlimited Inc. did an excellent job of renovating our condominium. Doing this job during a pandemic was a challenge because the condo board required that our contractor adhere to strict safety rules and procedures. The project was completed on time. Any small adjustments that needed to be made were completed in a timely fashion and to our total satisfaction. I was told by residents in the building that Allan Homes was one of the best contracting companies that has worked in the building in terms of professionalism and lack of disruption. It was a pleasure working with Rita and Jim. I recommend them without reservation.

Wow! Allan Homes did a fantastic job on our remodel of our entire first floor. They were easy and cooperative to work with from deconstruction to completion. Allan and Jim (job foreman) worked with us from the beginning to be sure that we were getting exactly what we envisioned for our "new home". Rita (Allan's assistant) kept us up to date on budget and our over/under. The subcontractors that worked with them were outstanding. Everyone showed up on time. were very professional, and left no mess at the end of each day. The quality of products was excellent. Jim was very patient with us when we made a few changes along the way. Our house is beautiful. Sometimes I still feel like I'm walking into someone else's home! :-) I would highly recommend Allan Homes for your remodeling project.

We began our search for a custom home builder in 2016 and quickly narrowed our selection to four homebuilders. All were top rated based upon our criteria but from our interviews Allan Homes Unlimited (AHU) stood apart and from our first meeting we knew Allan was the right homebuilder for us. Allan Homes has been building homes in the Columbia area for over 30 years and many of the employees have been with Allan for most of those years. Allan has established excellent business relations with his suppliers and subcontractors and has utilized their expert services for years. All suppliers and subcontractors provided excellence service and were attentive to detail and responsive to our requests. From the start, Allan understood our design requirements. Allan Homes provides a design-build process which results in detailed requirements for a perfect home. We met weekly to ensure changes were understood and documented, and to review the budget and schedule. Allan managed the budget closely so when we changed a design feature, we knew the impact to our budget. He routinely provided options to consider for cost savings, which helped us to manage our budget. There was minimal delay in the schedule due to winter weather conditions and we moved into our new home within 7 months of breaking ground. There were no surprises. The punch list was short and Allan Homes quickly fixed all problems in a timely manner. One of our concerns was with our atypical heating system and its configuration. Allan’s subcontractor worked endlessly with us to set the system to maximize the efficiency. Like most people, we did a lot of Internet searches to find answers to our questions. Frequently, the google result was to "Ask Allan" and as we near our one year anniversary, Allan Homes is still quick to respond to our questions. We hold Allan in high regard not just because of his expert skill in home building but because he is so active in the community with Special Olympics and has a great moral compass. Allan built us a beautiful dream home and we felt a great sense of dedication from AHU to ensure our home met our expectations. You will not find someone who cares more and does more than Allan Homes in making sure you are satisfied with their work. We would highly recommend Allan Homes Unlimited to anyone seeking a quality and dedicated custom homebuilder.

Allan Homes created a much-needed main level powder room out of my entryway closet, walled off my basement laundry room, and created a basement hallway entrance to the area under my stairs complete with an attractive, well placed door for easy storage access. Referred to me by J. Heil Plumbing, a company I have used and trusted for years, Jim, Rita, & the Allan Homes crew proved to be every bit as trustworthy, timely, and willing to complete the job to my satisfaction as the company who referred them. It's no wonder Heil has chosen to work with Allan Homes - & I will, again, for all of my home renovation needs!

We have both worked with Allan and his crew as I am a interior designer, and Allan also helped us build our home 4 years ago. Allan is hands on, responsive and very knowledgable when it comes to all aspects of design build. His crew is knowledgable, and very respectful. Allan Homes Unlimited built a deck and screened porch. They are the best! Crew was wonderful and Jim Brumsted , the director of operations, was very responsive, returning my emails or phone calls the same day. The workmanship is the best we have ever seen! Project was on time and every detail covered.

We hired Allan Homes Unlimited to tear down our existing deck and build a screened porch. The results are incredible. The attention to detail during the entire process let us create a beautiful outdoor living space that we'll enjoy for years to come. By removing the siding and adding drywall, this space feels like a room, not just something tacked on to the side of the house. The quality of materials and workmanship are excellent, and the professionalism of all the people who worked on this project was outstanding. I have had many passersby stop just to tell me how beautiful our porch is, and it is truly an enhancement to our house. Although the weather did not allow this project to be completed within the expected time frame, that was not the fault of the contractor, and every effort was made to complete this project once the weather improved again. They were extremely conscientious in apprising us of schedule changes and budget changes, and working with us to make sure every detail met with our approval.

Project was to roof and screen in an existing deck. AllanHomes came out, discussed at length, made some great suggestions based on experience and we decided to go forward. Work went well, crew worked around the weather interruptions. Anything I noted during construction , including things I didn't even see were corrected before I even said anything. We had communication through the process, and small things were adjusted easily. We always felt like we had a say in things as it was happening. Project is complete, and we are enjoying our screened in porch. Dealing with AllanHomes and their excellent sub contractors went well. We will gladly be a reference for AllanHomes.

Rebuilt 4,000+ sq. ft. home from foundation up after a fire. Meticulous attention to detail, very knowledgeable. Worked well with architect and other vendors. Helped us avoid spending money unnecessarily. Generous with time and expertise in planning and executing a difficult project. Lots of integrity among the entire staff. Would use them again in a minute.

Allan Homes is superb. We can speak with authority on this because Allan has built us two houses (1994 and 1999) and done an extensive basement finishing project (2003). Allan, Rita and the entire team bring the utmost in professionalism, excellence, respect and good common sense. The quality of their work is superior. They are utterly honest and trustworthy, keep to their detailed timetables and are respectful of costs. We cannot say enough good things about these truly remarkable people.
