Built from the ground up on 80 acres outside Dallas, Oregon, this new modern ranch house is a balanced blend of natural and industrial elements. The custom home beautifully combines various materials, unique lines and angles, and attractive finishes throughout. The property owners wanted to create a living space with a strong indoor-outdoor connection. We integrated built-in sky lights, floor-to-ceiling windows and vaulted ceilings to attract ample, natural lighting. The master bathroom is spacious and features an open shower room with soaking tub and natural pebble tiling. There is custom-built cabinetry throughout the home, including extensive closet space, library shelving, and floating side tables in the master bedroom. The home flows easily from one room to the next and features a covered walkway between the garage and house. One of our favorite features in the home is the two-sided fireplace – one side facing the living room and the other facing the outdoor space. In addition to the fireplace, the homeowners can enjoy an outdoor living space including a seating area, in-ground fire pit and soaking tub.

A necessity for every beach house is an outdoor shower.
Corrugated steel clads the walls of this outdoor shower to create an industrial outdoor feature.
Located under the main deck, this outdoor shower provides home owners with a great space to rinse off after a day on the sandy beach and prevents sand from being tracked inside.

This house, built in the 1960s, sits southfacing on a terrific wooded lot in Bethesda, Maryland.
The owners desire a whole-house renovation which would improve the general building fabric and systems, and extend the sense of living out of doors in all seasons.
The original sixties-modern character is preserved and the renovation extends the design forward into a contemporary, modern approach. Connections to and through the site are enhanced through the creation of new larger window and door openings.
Screened porches and decks perch above the sloped and wooded site. The new kitchen and bathrooms allow for opportunities to feel out-of -doors while preparing, cooking, dining, and bathing.
Smart passive strategies guide the environmental choices for this project, including envelope improvements, updated mechanical systems, and on-site stormwater management.

At O'Shea Construction, we are passionate about custom design, preservation, and quality. This coastal property gave us every opportunity to do our best work. Inside we installed new drywall, a water pump, and gas heater. The home's electrical was replaced, and can lighting installed. The before pictures of this property are an inspiring display of the opportunity custom construction presents. Outside we installed new fascia, and built a new TimberTech deck with breadboard soffiting under the lid. The old fences were torn down and replaced with custom fencing, complete with a custom handrail designed by Chris Parker.
