Vintage Villa Residence on Hawaii Island – completed in November 2006
Photography by Pablo McLoud
This residence was lovingly re-furbished to include the original finishes and floor plan layout. The Villa was updated with select furnishings and fabrics in order to create a background that enhanced the client’s collection of art from some of Hawaii’s premier artists.

Open to the gardens on one side and the ocean on the other, it's hard to find a less than stunning view from the Media Room chairs.

The architectural vocabulary draws upon British Colonial precedents in the West Indies with masonry-stucco walls, a standing seam metal hip roof with a kick at the eaves, a wooden balcony supported by wood brackets on the more public street facade, and a wooden gallery atop hefty masonry columns framed with wood brackets on the more private waterfront façade. These features have been developed and refined over hundreds of years to accommodate comfortable living in the Caribbean and have evolved into a living tradition of beautiful vernacular architecture that is, as a result, truly sustainable.
The covered outdoor spaces in conjunction with the protected courts, deep overhangs and operable wood shutters provide a sustainable home that respects the context and climate, maximizes energy-efficiency and minimizes environmental impact. The simple massing and layout of this house with its simple and flexible spaces can accommodate many different family types and lifestyles and can even change uses as market demands change over time. These characteristics together with a timeless elegance and beauty support the firmness, commodity and delight required for truly sustainable living.

This popular maximalist look is filled to the brim with deep blues and serene teals. Wonderfully atmospheric, this luxe scheme is all about the layering of super tactile materials fused with the grandeur of metallic accents and bold geometric motifs. What's not to love?

This laid-back, tropical chair with gentle swivel was made for lazy days. Enjoy the company of friends or quality time with yourself in the Diamond Cove chair. The chair boasts a sink-in seat cushion with multi-layer cushion comfort surrounded by an eye-catching, wicker and rattan frame. The wicker base is specially woven in an alternating chevron pattern while the rattan back adds a touch of British West Indies styling with a leather-wrapped, bent rattan lattice.

In this sunroom nook, cafe height, Hunter Douglas NewStyle shutters were installed inside each double window opening. There is no tilt bar on these contemporary appearing shutters, To open and close the louvers, simply tilt one louver, and all the louvers on the panel will open or close! A reverse pleated valance was installed inside each window opening. The shutters and valance allow all the pretty trim work to be seen at the windows.
