“Just as described, there is an edgy, irreverent vibe here, but the result has an appropriate stature and seriousness. Love the overscale windows. And the outdoor spaces are so great.”
Situated atop an old Civil War battle site, this new residence was conceived for a couple with southern values and a rock-and-roll attitude. The project consists of a house, a pool with a pool house and a renovated music studio. A marriage of modern and traditional design, this project used a combination of California redwood siding, stone and a slate roof with flat-seam lead overhangs. Intimate and well planned, there is no space wasted in this home. The execution of the detail work, such as handmade railings, metal awnings and custom windows jambs, made this project mesmerizing.
Cues from the client and how they use their space helped inspire and develop the initial floor plan, making it live at a human scale but with dramatic elements. Their varying taste then inspired the theme of traditional with an edge. The lines and rhythm of the house were simplified, and then complemented with some key details that made the house a juxtaposition of styles.
The wood Ultimate Casement windows were all standard sizes. However, there was a desire to make the windows have a “deep pocket” look to create a break in the facade and add a dramatic shadow line. Marvin was able to customize the jambs by extruding them to the exterior. They added a very thin exterior profile, which negated the need for exterior casing. The same detail was in the stone veneers and walls, as well as the horizontal siding walls, with no need for any modification. This resulted in a very sleek look.

This memorial garden is a tribute to a beloved son, friend, and brother who tragically passed away from a fatal overdose. The garden is intended to be a serene and uplifting space where friends and family can come to reflect and remember him. This garden’s purpose is to celebrate Beau’s life and personality, offering comfort and peace without focusing heavily on the aspect of loss.

Working with an award winning home design firm, this home was conceptualized and planned out with the utmost in attention to detail. Unique architectural elements abound, with the most prominent being the curved window set with extended roof overhang that looks a bit like a watch tower. Painting that feature a dark color, ensured that it remained noticeable without overtaking the front facade.
Extensive cedar was used to add a bit of rustic charm to the home, and warm up the exterior. All cedar is stained in Benjamin Moore Hidden Valley. If you look at each side of the highest gable, you will see two cedar beams flaring out. This was such a small detail, but well worth the cost for a crane and many men to lift and secure them in place at 30 feet in height.
Many have asked the guys at Pike what the style of this home is, and neither them nor the architects have a set answer. Pike Properties feels it blends many architectural styles into one unique home. If we had to call it something though, it would be Modern English Country.

Originally an unwieldy mix of Rambler and Tudor styles, this lakeside home in Edina now has an appealing cottage charm. A new, welcoming porch was added, making sense of an asymmetrical gable. Stucco and clumsy faux timber sticking were replaced with beautiful gray ledge stone and narrow lap siding contrasted with crisp white trim, giving the exterior a rich texture with a modern touch. Inside, the new kitchen was opened up to views and daylight, improving the interior flow of the home. Taking cues from the owners’ MacKenzie-Childs fixtures, the cabinets and fireplace pair a playful grid motif with a black and white material palette. The black and white theme is repeated with a striking accent wallpaper highlighting one wall with a sophisticated marble and stainless steel tile backsplash on the other. Light blue walls and a warm wooden island create a softer, more relaxed feel, bringing the cottage inside.

The 2023 Southern Living Idea House is an oasis on the Tennessee hillside. Bill Holloway and Luke Sippel of Lake + Land Studio had the task of building and designing the perfect home for clients who loved dogs, music, and indoor-outdoor living.
The 5,600-square-foot contemporary Southern farmhouse in Leiper’s Fork was intentionally placed to fit the surrounding natural landscape. Holloway and Sippel wanted the home to feel as though it had always been there.
An important element of Southern living was present in the home’s design and build: porches. The home has a large, covered porch that runs the nearly the entire length of the back of the home on the main floor and one on the lower level. Using Marvin Ultimate multi-slide doors on the porch unified the indoor and outdoor spaces. The multi-slide door has the ability for the door to open fully, seamlessly blending the two spaces.
