This property was transformed from an 1870s YMCA summer camp into an eclectic family home, built to last for generations. Space was made for a growing family by excavating the slope beneath and raising the ceilings above. Every new detail was made to look vintage, retaining the core essence of the site, while state of the art whole house systems ensure that it functions like 21st century home. This small third bedroom in a 1950's North Vancouver home originally housed our growing interior design business. When we outgrew this 80 square foot space and moved to a studio across the street, I wondered what would become of this room with its lovely ocean view. As it turns out it evolved into a shared creative space for myself and my very artistic 7 year old daughter. In the spirit of Virginia Wolfe's "A Room of One's Own" this is a creative space where we are surrounded by some of our favourite things including vintage collectibles & furniture, artwork and craft projects, not to mention my all time favourite Cole and Son wallpaper. Lily's pretty bedroom bathed in romantic cross light from several sources. Vintage wallpaper is hard to find and hard to hang, but so worth it. The curtains are vintage florals, and the floor is cheap and cheerful painted plywood. Photos by Kaity Grandma's buffet painted in a bold orange is adorned with lots of misc. candlesticks all painted silver and finished off with green candles. The branch is spray painted orange too and held up in a bronze trash can. Ribbon trees were handmade with poster board and white ribbon, sitting atop martini glasses.
