What Houzz contributors are saying:
Aim higherRather than going so far as to build a platform for your bed with steps up, consider simply raising the height of your mattress and tucking storage underneath. This quirky design is in fact created by the architect from customised Ikea drawer units. Leather straps act as drawer pulls, while a small wooden bench works as a practical step up.Alternatively, consider a bed mechanism that pulls upwards from the foot end of the mattress to reveal cavernous storage underneath as an alternative to drawers. Source inspiration from Japanese-style furniture and consider a lightweight futon-style mattress for easier lifting.Check out these beds high on style & storage
For a master or other bedroom, an elevated bed could be the key to lots of under-bed closet space. Install modular drawers underneath your bed to create layers of sleek, smart storage.
9. Rise aboveThis lofty storage bed is actually not a bed at all! The mattress has been placed atop several sets of Ikea kitchen cabinetry, customised by a professional joiner with Douglas fir cladding to make them into a mix of drawers and empty cabinets, and finished with leather pulls. Not only has this given the bedroom plenty of storage space, it’s also raised the bed to the point where those sleeping in it can easily look out of the clerestory window behind it, to enjoy both the view and the summer breeze.
