5. How important is the motor? The motor is the key component and the one that propels the fan, so yes, it’s an important factor to consider. Low-quality motors might provide reduced air circulation over time, produce heat and operate noisily. The newest addition to the ceiling fan industry, DC motors are powerful yet energy-saving. They are up to 70 per cent more efficient than the regular motors. In addition, they are virtually soundless and their small size results in lighter fans.Tip: To identify the energy savers, go by the fan’s star ratings. Needless to say, the higher the star rating, the more energy-efficient it is.

The staircase connects to two floors that house a pantry, master bedroom, children’s bedroom, an entertainment zone and an open terrace. “The owners have a modern lifestyle and wanted a home which is apt and comfortable for the growing needs of the family. Therefore, we designed for them a compact, accessible residence with eclectic interiors,” Aurora says.

10. Curation done rightDécor is as much about the personal touch as it is about aesthetics. This living room by Group DCA covers two rooms and includes a collection of artefacts and other accessories that the family have picked during their travels. While the space includes a variety of furniture and accessories, the underlying theme that joins these together is that they reflect the owner’s personality. Most of the furniture pieces are made of reclaimed wood and are hand-crafted. The grey armchair placed right at the opening between the rooms bridges the boundary between the rooms.

Use distressed materialsThe material palette for this look is often dominated with wood and metal with hints of leather. Look for salvaged objects, repurposed furniture, distressed products and utilitarian accessories. Visit local flea markets (every city has one) and look beyond the dust and chaos. Pick out pieces that evoke grunge and look like they were part of an old cotton mill factory.

Glass walls are the perfect solution to dark rooms - It maintains a feeling of remoteness or privacy whilst also allowing light through to areas which didnt previously benefit from natural light reaching it.
