The Commandants House in Charlestown Navy Yard. I was asked to design the kitchen for this historic house in Boston. My inspiration was a family style kitchen that was youthful and had a nod to it's historic past. The combination of wormy cherry wood custom cabinets, and painted white inset cabinets works well with the existing black and white floor. The island was a one of kind that I designed to be functional with a wooden butcher block and compost spot for prep, the other half a durable honed black granite. This island really works in this busy city kitchen.
What Houzz contributors are saying:

Your style is … Parisian bistro: Intimate is what you’re looking for, and this style has it. Tile floors, window awnings, zinc countertops and vintage advertisement posters will transport you to your favourite French café.

These solid ceramic tiles are available in pretty patterns, accents and eye-catching motifs. They can effortlessly metamorphose the look of a monotonous kitchen.Tip: You can even opt for tiles that are laser-cut into different shapes like triangles, rectangles and circles, to move away from a coordinated look in the kitchen.Pros: The tiles are colour-fast and very durable – the surviving portions of mosaic ceramic tile floors of ancient Rome look as fresh as ever. These tiles can be easily made to fit into any size of room. Ceramics are environmentally friendly. Cons: You can literally get cold feet while walking or standing on these during winter. Also, as this surface is extremely hard, you may feel uncomfortable standing on it for extended periods.

the soft yellow, red and wood tones with all of the rustic decor

Light yellow walls. Lots of natural wood with floors.
