Modernist Addition

Many challenges awaited revision of the Meier's front entry - a steep site sloping east, a squeezed existing entry with no room for expansion in any direction, an existing flue through the front closet which couldn't be moved, an existing "front" (side) entrance door into the garage, and seemingly no wiggle room to make circulation or expansion work. In addition, the Master Bedroom was at the front of the house "on the street" and far too small for comfortable function, bathroom, or clothes storage. In essence this 1960's house was a disaster at some of the most critical areas. Having created a successful solar addition 20 years previous, the Meier's called us back to see what could be done to the (north) entry side of the house. So we extended an angled front entry out toward the street and created an inviting patio as a forecourt to the home. This also allowed us to pull the Master north a bit and place new closets and bath as a privacy buffer to the street. Problem solved! The rest of the design is a modernest attempt to welcome guests in a manner fitting the original funky front massing. http://www.jkadesign.net
