Photo by Alan Tansey This East Village penthouse was designed for nocturnal entertaining. Reclaimed wood lines the walls and counters of the kitchen and dark tones accent the different spaces of the apartment. Brick walls were exposed and the stair was stripped to its raw steel finish. The guest bath shower is lined with textured slate while the floor is clad in striped Moroccan tile.

Scope of work: Update and reorganize within existing footprint for new master bedroom, master bathroom, master closet, linen closet, laundry room & front entry. Client has a love of spa and modern style.. Challenge: Function, Flow & Finishes. New space has more than 12 times as much exterior glass to flood the space in natural light (all glass is frosted for privacy). Created a stylized boutique feel with modern lighting design and opened up front entry to include a new coat closet, built in bench and display shelving. . A small space was transformed into a retro throwback using Carerra marble, a basket weave pattern tile floor, pedestal sink, clean fixtures and bright blue wall color.

We chose cabinetry made from reclaimed barnwood from Country Roads Associates (in Holmes, NY) as well as a copper farmhouse sink to get the farmhouse feel. Adding the brick wall and reclaimed 2" thick barnwood beam shelving further enhanced the rustic nature of the design. The Caspian blue glass tile by Akdo Tile, stainless steel appliances (Viking, Bosch, Liebherrr, Thermador) and thin Dekton (by Cosentino) counter tops lend the contemporary touch. Hafele hardware and interior cabinet lighting also adds a contemporary touch along with the Blum Aventos lift-systems (automatic cabinet doors). Photo by Chris Sanders

This large bathroom remodel feature a clawfoot soaking tub, a large glass enclosed walk in shower, a private water closet, large floor to ceiling linen closet and a custom reclaimed wood vanity made by Limitless Woodworking. Light fixtures and door hardware were provided by Houzz. This modern bohemian bathroom also showcases a cement tile flooring, a feature wall and simple decor to tie everything together.

Interiors shouldn't just be about how spaces look. These ribbed grey porcelain tiles bring a depth to this elegant one-colour bathroom that perfectly captures the sun's rays and make you want to reach out and touch. Overall effect - peace and calm. Photography by Fisher Hart

The entire room is designed in shades of white, including white painted cabinetry with blue accents in the tile design. A combination of satin nickel hardware and chrome fixtures added a bit of sophistication. The heated octagon and dot flooring give the design a timeless feel. This was all brought together to create the casual simplicity of the coastal design style.
