This is a small condo backyard which was originally a steep hill and was not a useable space. We terraced with stone and created 2 seating areas. The main outdoor living space now has an outdoor kitchen and stone fireplace. The garden includes succulents, seasonal color, and drought tolerant plants.

This group of Italian terracotta pots are planted with a variety of plant material. Edible plants like lettuce, herbs and a small blueberry bush share the container with perennials and annual flowers. In a small garden space you really can plant a large variety of materials as long as the colour palette is harmonious. I chose shades of blue, silver, and a mix of green textural plants. In the foreground container I put miniature lettuce ('Tom Thumb') along with the herbs. When the lettuce is harvested it doesn't take long for the other surrounding plants to fill in the spot.
Unique combinations of plants make your containers more interesting.
