In today’s fast-evolving home design landscape, mattress is getting a long-overdue upgrade. No longer hidden under colourful bedsheets or taken for granted, mattresses are now becoming a central part of the modern Indian home—where comfort, health, and sustainability matter just as much as aesthetics. With urban homes becoming more compact and wellness-focused, people are looking for mattresses that offer smarter sleep solutions without compromising on design. From cooling technologies to eco-friendly materials, here are the top mattress trends transforming Indian bedrooms. 1. Cooling Technology for Warm Climate India’s diverse climate - particularly the prolonged summers in most regions—makes temperature regulation a top priority for sleep comfort, leading to a growing demand for cooling mattresses. Popular technologies addressing this need include gel-infused foam that disperses body heat to keep the surface cool, open-cell foam structures that enhance air circulation and breathability, and bamboo covers that are naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, making them ideal for hot and humid conditions. 2. Eco-Friendly Materials With growing awareness around sustainable living, more people are opting for mattresses made from natural and eco-conscious materials. One popular choice is 100% natural latex, which is extracted from rubber trees and valued for being biodegradable, long-lasting, and naturally anti-allergenic. 3. Choosing the Right Mattress Type for Your Modern Home While materials and technologies play a vital role, the type of mattress you choose significantly impacts how well it supports your sleep needs and fits your lifestyle. Whether it’s memory foam that contours to your body and relieves pressure points, latex that offers bounce, cooling, and durability, orthopedic mattresses that provide targeted back and spine support, or hybrid designs that combine foam and springs for balanced comfort—each type delivers distinct benefits tailored to different preferences. If you are unsure which one suits you best, read our guide on the types of mattresses - https://www.flomattress.com/blogs/posts/types-of-mattresses/ to find the perfect match for your sleep style and budget. 4. Multi-Functional and Space-Saving Mattress Designs With urban homes in India becoming increasingly compact—especially in metro cities—there’s a growing demand for space-saving mattress solutions that fit seamlessly into modular, multifunctional spaces. Roll-pack mattresses, which are delivered in compact boxes and easy to carry and unroll, are ideal for apartments on higher floors. Foldable or dual-use mattresses work well in guest rooms or compact homes where furniture must serve multiple purposes. These innovative designs cater to the needs of nuclear families, working professionals, and renters who prioritize flexibility and functionality in their living spaces. 5. Smart Sleep: Tech-Integrated Solutions While smart beds with sensors are still gaining traction, customers are showing increasing interest in tech-inspired features that enhance sleep quality. Features like: • Zoned support for pressure relief in the back, hips, and shoulders • Motion isolation, ideal for couples with different sleep schedules • Customised base compatibility for custom comfort setups These solutions reflect the growing shift toward wellness-oriented living in India, where sleep is being seen as a vital pillar of health. Final Thoughts: A Mattress That Matches Your Lifestyle As Indian homes evolve, so do our expectations from everyday essentials. The mattress is no longer just something you sleep on—it’s a wellness product, a design choice, and a lifestyle investment. Whether you’re setting up your first home in Bangalore, upgrading your bedroom in Pune, or shopping online from a tier-2 city—look for a mattress that aligns with your climate, values, and space.

Project: THE YELLOW DOOR HOUSE Location:Pune Carpet Area: 2000 sq.ft Type: 2 bhk Penthouse Company: Between Walls Designer: Natasha Shah Photography courtesy: Inclined Studio (Maulik Patel) This project started two year ago with a very defined brief. This is a weekend gateway penthouse of 2000 sq.ft (approx.) for our client Mr. Vishal Jain. The penthouse is a 2BHK with ample terrace space which is perfect to host parties and enjoy a nice chilly evening watching a movie overlooking the stars above. The client was fascinated by his travel to Greece and wanted his holiday home to reflect his love for it. We explored the concepts and realised that it’s all about using local materials and being sustainable as far as possible in design. We visualised the space as a white space with yellows and blues and various patterns and textures. We had to give the client the experience of a holiday home that he admired keeping in mind that the vernacular design sense should still remain but with materials that were available in and around Pune. We started selecting materials that were sustainable and handcrafted in our city majorly. We wanted to use local materials available in Pune in such a way that they looked different and we could achieve the effect that the client was looking for as an end product. Use of recyclable material was also done at a great extent as cost was a major factor, it being a vacation home. We reused the waste kota that was discarded on site as the terrace flooring and created a pattern out of it which replicated the old streets of Greece. The beds and seating we made in civil and finished with IPS. The staircase tread is made out of readymade tread-tiles and the risers are of printed tiles to pop in a little colour and the railing is made on-site from Teakwood and polished. All internal floorings and and dado’s are tiles. A blue dummy window has been reused from and repainted. The main door is Painted yellow to bring in the cheerfulness and excitement. As we enter the living room everything around is in shades of white and then there are browns, yellows and blues splashed on the canvas. The jute carpet, the pots and the cane wall art are all handcrafted. The balcony connects to the living and kids room. A rocking chair has been placed there to unwind and relax. The light and shadow play that the ceiling bamboo performs throughout the day adds to a lot of character in the balcony. The kids room has been kept simple with just hanging ropes from the ceiling on the corners of the bed for it to connect to the outdoors and the rustic nature is continued from the living to kids room. The blue master bedroom door opens up to a very dramatic blue ceiling and white sheer space along with a cozy corner with a round jute carpet and bamboo wall art. The terrace entrance door continuous to the yellow on door and its yellow tiles. The bar overlooks the beautiful sunset view. There are steps created as seating space to enjoy a movie projected on the front blank wall in the front. The seating is made in civil and is finished with IPS. The green wall make the space picture perfect.

An exploration of Japandi blending Zen Minimalism with Scandinavian Design Sensibilities in this simple balcony clad Two bedroom apartment. The Living room welcomes you with a Mosaic Terazzo Flooring with high skirting visually leading you to the gorgeous balcony view. The columns are exposed and further polished to highlight the material - bringing out its natural texture. The son's bedroom is casual space anchored by a black a white pinstriped floor. The sleeping area has stacked mattresses that provide space and when needed - allows instant bedding for fun sleepover nights. The wooden blinds filter and juxtapose it against the pinstriped floor, beautifully suiting the varying needs of the space during different times of the day. The Master bedroom experiments with wooden inserts in kadappah flooring leading you to a flat low bed making the cozy room look spacious. The attached balcony is the perfect spot to relax in, comfortably ensconced in the retro folding ‘araam khursi’ gazing into the open sky. The master bathroom fearlessly experiments with kadappah flooring and golden porto Italian marble. The custom-built stone basin counter makes the counter spacious and functional.

It’s not every day that you come across a house that makes you wonder if you’re really amidst the hustle and bustle of a city life! This dazzling duplex penthouse starts off with an entrance embedded with rich, natural wood, finished off with beaten copper. This lends a certain earthiness to the space and just like that, your visual appetite is hungry to take in more! Once inside, the soaring ceiling and expansive windows unite to create a light-filled living room, leaving you with the room’s grand sense of space. The first thing that catches your eye is the Pichwai art that spans an entire wall of the living room, followed by a striking wooden swing, by including these local elements, we have combined contemporary with the essence of Gujarati culture. The prime attraction of the house is the triple height central area that starts with an exposed brick wall and concludes with a skylight on top. Situated in this central area is the tastefully designed staircase with segments of polished wood and raw iron segments that merge seamlessly with rest of the decor. The entire east side of the house opens up internally by means of vertical fins, creating an aesthetic dance of shadow and light, whilst also ensuring that the house receives ample cross ventilation. Brilliant use of pivoted windows is spotted in the living room with different colour palettes on both its sides to compliment the space they fall in. All the designs reflect distinctive use of natural textures and palettes ranging from beaten copper, traditional fabrics, polished and unpolished kota, exposed concrete & brick combination, adding a sense of wholesomeness to the entire area. The house gives a sense of liveliness and comfort, with a hint of moody tones here and there.
