Lilyfield traditional cottage

A traditional cottage in Lilyfield was restored at the front whilst the rear was reworked into a modern family space. Inline with the heritage façade at street level a simple clipped hedge and pretty flowering plants were chosen. For the Rear, the contemporary family garden was split into two levels allowing for access to a lower back laneway. The top level with huge sliders of the house functions as a generous tiled entertaining area. A crisp white dining table and BBQ was designed against one wall whilst and a formal row of snow pears adds softness whilst screening the neighbours and providing privacy on the other. Also on this level a linear shape pond divides the two spaces and creates interest and a soft bubbling sound. Floating style steps lead down to the rear gate and a lawn with a studio in the corner. Boston Ivy covers the rear fence and façade and provides further greenery and softness. Planting was chosen to soften the contemporary architecture adding colour and warmth and highlighting the seasons for this Lilyfield cottage. A pop of purple and soft glaucous greens are highlighted against the green and charcoal surrounds. The result is a contemporary garden of layered softness, colours and functionality that compliments the renovation of the house.
