Kitchens

Cornwall, New York Kitchen 4th of 4 photos (detail). In a home built by a well known railroad magnate in the early 20th century, this kitchen was originally chopped up into 3 rooms. The current owners needed a lot of extra refrigeration space and wanted the cabinets to feel at one with the rest of the house. The cabinet details were copied from an original built-in that still exists in an adjoining room and the heart pine floor was replaced to match the flooring throughout the rest of the house. The stainless steel counter and sink were manufactured for the space in one piece, so a big part of planning it involved making sure it would go through the door. A large lot of antique subway tile was sourced for the walls. Wood paneled dish drawers and refrigerators, and metal screen radiator covers help keep the historic feeling. Photo by Michael Gabor
