A classic cook’s kitchen that also provides kitchen dining with a direct connection to the patio and terrace gardens. In the new design, we added new windows, French doors and skylights to bring in more natural light while the mahogany island defines new work centers; two sink/water locations, high-performance equipment, and ample countertops for multiple cooks to use at one time. In a modern take that uses simple, classic components - we applied a mix of white, earth brown, and gray in porcelain tile, Cararra marble, painted cabinetry, butcher block and Cambria counter tops - to suggest grandmother’s old, French kitchen. Custom Contemporary Home in a Northwest Modern Style utilizing warm natural materials such as cedar rainscreen siding, douglas fir beams, ceilings and cabinetry to soften the hard edges and clean lines generated with durable materials such as quartz counters, porcelain tile floors, custom steel railings and cast-in-place concrete hardscapes. This end of the kitchen was originally walled off into two separate rooms. A smaller room was on the left which was a larder and the right had a small eating area for servants., hence the two different sized windows. I created a large sweeping curved to over a support beam that was structurally required once the walls were removed and then completed the curve with custom designed brackets. The custom built banquette has a leather seat and fabric back. The table I designed and a local worker made it from a felled walnut tree on the property.

this old house in the garden park neighbourhood in east van was divided into 3 suites when my clients purcahsed it. with a growing family, they bought the fixer upper with the intention of taking over the upper suite and opening up the main floor. in the process, the whole house has been gutted & refurbished. there's a lovely & legal suite in the basement, a beauitiful open concept main floor plan and 3 bedrooms upstairs with a gorgeous vaulted ceiling in the mezannine. it's been a pleasure replanning this home and helping select finishes & furnishings.
