Rooms by DesignMr & Mrs Trotter came into the showroom looking for a kitchen for the extension that they were building after being recommended by a friend
They wanted to create a family friendly space, with small children an open area was ideal. They asked for a lots of storage ideas, they love cooking and baking so plenty of workspace was essential
After a couple of different design ideas, they settled on a bank of larders, a cooking area and an island with seating, then it was onto colours. They knew from the start they wanted 2 colours, the light grey was perfect for them and as a contrast dust grey for the island worked perfectly

With a mix of wooden and zinc worktops, the shaker kitchen in grey tones sits comfortably next to exposed brick works of the chimney breast. Clients wanted an update, but desired to keep their existing caramel colored cabinets, The focal point of the kitchen became a custom-made chimney hood, made out of natural slate. Wall was accented with a textured, hand-painted, ceramic tile backsplash. New wall of cabinets was added with a rub-through and distressed finishing process to create this warm, rustic look with Old World Charm.

British Standard by Plain EnglishNarrow, but not a problem in London. We positioned the entire kitchen along one wall and tucked the oven into the chimney breast, with ornate tiling drawing the eye. Antique furniture mixes easily with B/S cupboards - as the kitchen opens up into a seating area. The simple visual line of a single shelf above the dishwasher and sink holds small objects and what the day turned up.

As well as a new theme, it was also up to designer Phil to incorporate a traditional element to match the style of this property, incorporating useful storage options. This client was also looking for a full flooring improvement which would help to integrate a dining and seating area into this vast space.
Design Elements
To suit the space designer Phil has created a great layout which incorporates all the elements of this project brief, with the bulk of amenities centred around a range cooker. Extra storage is provided in tall units that run all the way towards the dining and living area of this property.
The theme is comprised of Virginia shaker furniture from British supplier Mereway in colours sea mist and pebble grey.
Traditional features have been included in this project in the form of a butler style sink and herringbone flooring from Karndean. The flooring has been fitted by our expert team, and runs throughout this whole space to create a luxurious feel.
The chimney breast surrounding the range looks original, but has been built out by our installation team to add a further traditional element. Phil has added further storage either side of the range in the form of discrete cabinetry.
Special Inclusions
A key part of this design was creating a communal feel in the kitchen. To accomplish this, great care has been taken to incorporate the seating and dining area into the design making the vast room feel connected. To add to this element a peninsula island has been included with space for three to sit.
Around the kitchen, solid quartz surfaces have been opted for, with Silestone’s lusso finish nicely complimenting the theme of the space.

To integrate the required storage, designer Phil has used a number of clever solutions to provide organised and maximised storage space.
An impressive pantry is built into tall units, with corner units and a pull out pantry also in the design. Feature end unit storage provides a nice place to store decorative cook books.

Chalkhouse KitchensThis beautiful family home in a prime location has an enviably large kitchen overlooking the beautiful, landscaped garden, with plenty of space for a feature, central chimney mantle with tall, narrow windows on either side to frame the cooking area and add light without loss of privacy due to the frosted glazing. Both of these small windows and the wide, main window on the sink run feature flooded quartz window cills, adding both depth to the worktops and a feeling of luxury. The tall bank of units on the right houses double Fisher and Paykel ovens and a flush fitting F&P American fridge freezer which looks beautifully sleek yet still holds enormous quantities of fresh and frozen food. On the left hand wall are the sink, dishwasher and bin cabinets along with a large breakfast cupboard that has a luxury Silestone veined quartz worktop inside, the perfect spot to prepare morning toast and coffee and store small electrical appliances within reach but out of sight, including space for a neat built in microwave oven. The island offers further storage with a built in wine cooler for keeping white and sparkling wines at the right temperature alongside an oak wine rack for the reds, within reach when you are sitting at the casual seating area. A small circular prep sink with dedicated Quooker hot tap next to the hob is useful when filling up pans of boiling water for veg and pasta. In the adjacent utility room, as well as room for the washing machine and tumble drier there is additional storage, including a tall broom cabinet for vacuum cleaner, mop, buckets etc. and a second tall unit to conceal the central heating boiler.

Castle Building & RemodelingThis 1922 home’s kitchen was due for a functional and aesthetic uplift. The homeowner was unhappy with the layout, so a new layout was designed to streamline usage for modern day living. A chimney that was no longer used was removed in order to create a more open space. The design was created in order to create a warm and inviting space, as well as relate to the home’s traditional styling – old ranch base trim and casing where replaced to match the old existing trim in the rest of the home, and the hardwood floors were installed to match what was in the living and dining room in the front of the house. Traditional light fixtures and handmade tiles round out the timeless details in the renovation. Overall, a neutral color palette allows the wood grain in the cabinetry and the beautiful colors and pattern in the new quartz countertops to shine. The homeowners gained much more usable storage – a large pantry, and cabinet function like the blind corner cabinet shelving system.
