The Fall City Renovation began with a farmhouse on a hillside overlooking the Snoqualmie River valley, about 30 miles east of Seattle. On the main floor, the walls between the kitchen and dining room were removed, and a 25-ft. long addition to the kitchen provided a continuous glass ribbon around the limestone kitchen counter. The resulting interior has a feeling similar to a fire look-out tower in the national forest. Adding to the open feeling, a custom island table was created using reclaimed elm planks and a blackened steel base, with inlaid limestone around the sink area. Sensuous custom blown-glass light fixtures were hung over the existing dining table. The completed kitchen-dining space is serene, light-filled and dominated by the sweeping view of the Snoqualmie Valley. The second part of the renovation focused on the master bathroom. Similar to the design approach in the kitchen, a new addition created a continuous glass wall, with wonderful views of the valley. The blackened steel-frame vanity mirrors were custom-designed, and they hang suspended in front of the window wall. LED lighting has been integrated into the steel frames. The tub is perched in front of floor-to-ceiling glass, next to a curvilinear custom bench in Sapele wood and steel. Limestone counters and floors provide material continuity in the space. Sustainable design practice included extensive use of natural light to reduce electrical demand, low VOC paints, LED lighting, reclaimed elm planks at the kitchen island, sustainably harvested hardwoods, and natural stone counters. Custom cabinet hardware and metal range hood make this rustic mountain kitchen a centerpiece in the house.

Stone was used liberally throughout the home; we chose a honed travertine. “In the different areas of the house, an array of finishes for the stone, from brushed or tumbled to polished or honed,” most of the countertops throughout the house are granite, and the exterior beams are covered in rough-hewn Hawaiian coral stone. New construction offers an opportunity to design without existing constraints, and this powder room is an example of drama in a relatively small space. The movement of the stone suits the homes' location, on a lake, and the finish of the wood cabinet adds warmth. We love the underlighting, for a softness when one enters.

Versa-LOK Retaining Walls & Random Cobble Paving Stone

This is a custom designed succulent wall. This striking green wall is a site specific landscape that incorporates a variety of plants with contrasting color, texture, and form. It has a built-in irrigation system which means literally minimal maintenance for the homeowner.

This renovation project launched with an immediate bond between designer and client and the shared commitment to create a unique, modern weekend home in the Rocky Mountains. The focus was on the main floor living area. We modernized the existing oak kitchen and gave new life to the corner river rock fireplace by featuring ledgestone running into the ceiling with a custom timber mantel and shelving. The kitchen’s center work island was rotated to create better work and entertaining space and to change the outlook from neigbour’s property to the beautiful mountain views. An addition to the back entrance features updated chrome lighting and plumbing fixtures; the floor was transformed to a warm, buttery maple. The interior doors were changed to a five panel shaker with a contemporary satin nickel knob. Trim and baseboards were painted to match the walls creating a feeling of height and allowing the doors to feature. The ensuite became an oasis of white and grey marble with a sleek toilet and custom shower. Once the renovation was complete, a furniture and accessory package was designed with the clients’ weekend lifestyle in mind.
