Dig Your Garden Landscape Design
This tired, unused San Francisco backyard was transformed into a modern, low-maintenance landscape with site-appropriate plantings enhanced by raised planting beds and a lead-free artificial lawn to replace the existing water-thirsty lawn. I created two separate "rooms" to break up the long narrow yard, and specified full range blue stone for the two small patio areas, connected by a curved pattern of rectangular pavers of the same natural stone. The raised concrete rectangular planting beds were incorporated to bring more movement and interest to the landscape along with gravel bed accents alongside. Some of the existing concrete remained, and was stained with a color to compliment the natural stone. These photos were taken over a three year period. Shambhala Landscapes
This classic San Francisco backyard was transformed into an inviting and usable outdoor living space. A few steps down lead to a lounging area, featuring drought-friendly and maintenance-free artificial grass as well as a cozy, custom-built natural gas fire pit surrounded by a Redwood bench.
Redwood fencing, low-voltage LED landscape lighting, drip irrigation, planting and a water feature completed the space.
Zenful Gardens
Beginning with a brand new conceptual design, we helped turn an old lawn, into a Mediterranean style outdoor living space. Complete with a new patio, custom boulder fountain, uplighting, olive tree, hand stacked rock wall, steel edging to help create depth & structure, and a hand-selected grouping of plants and boulders to give this yard exceptional character.

Laminar jets add an element of playful whimsy to this sunken hot tub surrounded by a seat wall. Because it is lowered into the ground, the hot tub is more integrated into the design and easier to access.
