Tom Meaney Architect, AIA
Arriving guests pass through a small garden before the front door opens to reveal the dramatic view. The main living area connects onto the covered porch and through to the kitchen and small den. A varied ceiling form and staggered exterior wall helps the large, informal space feel comfortable for two people or a large gathering. The textures of painted brick and rustic wall planks offset the warm tones of the vintage timbers and wood flooring.
Coburn Design Build
The clients were looking for a beach house to be built on this site overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands, and the house design responds with a guest wing and a tower oriented to take in the ocean view. At the clients’ direction, Coburn designed a building that has a timeless appearance, looking as if it has been sitting on site for decades. This intention was achieved with salvaged materials, focused design work, and a high level of detail typically found in the great homes of the past.

Traditional with a twist, orange walls with a magenta glaze. Bring this very traditional setting up to todays less stuffy and fun standards.

FORMA Design
In the master bedroom, artwork by the designer becomes an elegant backdrop to the bed. A simple Japanese-inspired bed and a Nelson bench complete the sparse furnishings. A transitional chaise acts as a counterpoint to the modernity of the rest of the space.
