Designed by Interior Designer Katie Jaydan This family was in much need of a basement overhaul. This St. Paul, 1922 Dutch Colonial home had much character but only a partially finished basement. With this growing family, this project included remodeling an unfinished basement into usable space. The new contemporary space includes an additional family space, office/guest bedroom, and a separate laundry room and mechanical closet. Castle Furnished and installed new egress windows in the bedroom to bring the home up to code. The living space was opened up to create a “multi-purpose” room for their growing family’s needs. The space was finished off with a glass block window, Mohawk carpet floors, baseboard heating, and beautiful bright blue walls to keep the space feeling warm.

The corking station and humidor. Made from mahogany with a rustic stain, and a "Cooperage" reclaimed wine barrel tabletop. The corking station was made with false moldings around the edge and hidden casters. It has the ability to pull out from the niche in the wall for access to the electrical components hidden behind. The Humidor was made with an electrical outlet inside to plug into the outlet in the wall behind the actual furniture piece. This outlet in the humidor is there as a way to plug in an electric cigar humidifier. The humidor is an insulated cabinet with a cedar lining and slanted shelves for cigars. Roof Lantern, Bifold Doors, and Bespoke Guttering Cornice Detail supplied to a home in Witley, Godalming. The roof lantern was powdercoated in a special RAL colour chosen by our client, a stone grey for the outside, and a warm grey for the inside. We also powdercoated the bifold doors, windows and guttering detail in the same RAL colour as the roof lantern interior, to give continuity to the extension. Tuscan inspired patio terrace with Walpole pergola and custom railings. Techo Bloc paver patio and retaining wall with steps. Seasonal plantings provides a pop of color. Stepping stones in a minimal gravel paved area lead past two lounge chairs to the intimate dining area. The herringbone-patterned limestone patio dissipates into a lush planting bed filled with loose swaths of shade-loving perennials and seasonal bulbs. Beech hedging, and formal clipped evergreens, surround the space and provide privacy, structure and winter interest to the garden. On axis to the main interior living space of the home, the fountain, is the focal point of the garden. A limestone water wall featuring an engraved pattern of fallen Honey Locust leaves nods to the centrally located mature Honey Locust tree that anchors the garden. Water, flowing down the wall, falls a short distance into a pool with a submerged limestone panel. The light noise of the falling water helps soften the sounds of the bustling downtown neighbourhood, creating a tranquil back drop for living and entertaining.

A contemporary modular Island Kitchen which is well-appointed and convenient. The island cooking counter has a jumbo galaxy granite counter top with a concealed 4 burner hob. The breakfast counter has been attached to one end of the island counter and is made of glittering white Corian stone.

In this photo we see the main A/V Rack for the Home Theater and Home Automation system in this home. The A/V Rack can slide out for service and then goes back in the cabinet when finished. The equipment is cooled by a series of in-take and out-take fans that are hidden from view on either side. The equipment wiring is actually fished through the false posts on the left and right of the cabinet.
