Commission for private townhouse in Harrogate
As part of a restoration project, the glazing within the inner entrance to the main hall has been etched in the negative to allow privacy from outside. Given the size of the area, the clients preferred a bold theme. The design shows branches of a magnolia tree in flower, left as clear glass against an etched background.
FRG Objects & Design / Art
These renderings depict the re-design of the Lobby and a cramped three bedroom apartment in a rental building in Williamsburg Brooklyn. The new Lobby we are presenting to the developer is a take-off on an early twentieth century office building corridor, our design features 7' tall ebony stained oak and copper wainscoting, copper pendents from FRG Objects & Design's "Evocative" lighting series, concrete wallpaper by Piet Boon and polished concrete floors.
What had been a dark apartment made up of too many small rooms has been re-visioned as a spacious light filled one bedroom loft. The loft kitchen boasts white lacquer and stainless oversized cabinets, black & white polished "Cesar Stone" counter tops and island, stained oak floors, the original distressed concrete ceiling, beams and columns with bright white plastered walls. The stairs and door we've added open onto a huge deck with a great view of Manhattan.

Changing Spaces
Once you step into the entrance at our Ruyteplaats project, you are immediately drawn towards the sprawling views across Hout Bay and the ocean below.
Cheryl wanted this space to feel warm and inviting, pulling you in towards the areas that lie beyond, by designing bespoke items with lots of rich woods, texture and a colour palette of Neutrals, Deep Blue Jewel tones and rich Tans.
The double volume entrance area called for bold light fittings in the form of 3 x Black pendants which hang at various heights, never detracting from the views ahead.
A gorgeous, round, bespoke flower table with hand carved detailing on the base, holds hand blown glass vases with a colourful array of fresh flowers, which welcomes one and causes one to pause here and take a breath, before taking in the rest of the open plan space.
Two bespoke custom designed consol tables flank the striking front door.
Cheryl loves layering with textures to create depth, and the wall paper used on these walls have just the right amount of tactility to add more interest.
Plants in wicker baskets gives life to any space, and the custom designed screen behind the plants seperate the Library from the Entrance Hall, giving the Library a bit of privacy but still allowing maximum light in this space.
It’s all in the details, always and in all ways.

Bilotta Kitchen & Home
For this project the client visited Bilotta’s Mamaroneck showroom and met with designer, Fabrice Garson. They wanted to gut and renovate their entire first floor to be as majestic as the outside of the house. They wanted a grand front entrance and a better flow from the kitchen to the family room. Fabrice suggested enlarging the doorway leading into the family room and adding a coffered ceiling throughout so everything flowed nicely from one room to the next. The cabinetry is Bilotta’s private line, the Bilotta Collection, inset with a step door in Dove White paint. The perimeter tops and backsplash are Carrera marble and the island is Jet Mist granite in a leather finish. Fabrice designed a custom banquette nook that comfortably seats the five family members and also houses two wine coolers. The island also seats five which was a request of the client, to be able to sit together at either spot. Fabrice collaborated with interior designer, Michele Green of Michele Green Design – Michele is also the co-owner of The Open House, a boutique store on Purchase Street in Rye. Michele specified all the stone work as well as the furniture and lighting. The table at the banquette is from Restoration Hardware and all stools and chairs are from CB2. The lighting above the island and banquette are from Michele’s store, The Open House. The grey vinyl for the banquette cushion is from Kravet. The house entrance has been designed to keep it very inviting with the greens. The name plate is floating on the baton in between the greens, thus keeping the entrance also vastu friendly.
Everything Home
This elegant home remodel created a bright, transitional farmhouse charm, replacing the old, cramped setup with a functional, family-friendly design.
The main entrance exudes timeless elegance with a neutral palette. A polished wooden staircase takes the spotlight, while an elegant rug, perfectly matching the palette, adds warmth and sophistication to the space.

Our colorful and custom designed cabinetry is the focal point of this quaint back-entry mudroom in a historic home in Minneapolis. In the beginning our clients requested a mudroom that had a bench, storage, and that would possibly have a door that would shut so that their dog could stay in the room while they were running errands. When we showed them our plan to not only have a bench, but make it a useful flip-top with dog food in the left and a dog bed on the right they were incredibly excited. Why not make the most out of a custom piece of cabinetry?

Spatial Design Architects
Our client set out from the start that he did not want a traditional home and supported us in creating a home that would be interesting, tested the planning system and made use of the lie of the land and views into the forest to the rear, the forest connects to the ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’ of ‘Thorndon Country Park’.
Spatial Design Architects undertook a full site analysis and feasibility study, that included a full understanding of the site and the local context, the existing dwelling was elevated 4m above the lower garden level, the plot was within a historic hamlet that dated back to the ‘Domesday Book’ of 1086, within the metropolitan greenbelt, conservation area and was adjacent to a Grade II listed dwelling. These were many points that we had to consider our design proposals upon and its impact.
We developed many possible contemporary design forms and ideas; the main design principles were to create a dwelling that provided fantastic internal views out to the forest and garden. We formed an idea of a house that functioned with the main living spaces on the upper floor and the ancillary spaces on the lower ground floor.
The main entrance would be via the upper level, an internal and external staircase would allow transition to the lower garden level, angled boundaries allowed a form that was fractured from the central core, that created two designated spaces. The use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) was suggested for the main upper-level structure, this was chosen for fast on-site construction and low environmental impact.
We developed a pre-application design document showing our design ethos for the site with the potential mass and form. This began great pre-application discussions with the local planning authority and ‘Design Council’, from the presentation further height, volume and placement restrictions were confirmed.
A final design was approved and developed further into technical design, 3 no. intersecting anthracite zinc pods, balanced upon the gabion clad wall podium. The front was designed as a subtle contemporary cottage with a bridged entrance and the rear with cantilevered a-symmetric gabled structures with glazed facades.
Spatial Design Architects have project managed the design, detailing and delivery of this unique bespoke home.
