Archadeck of AustinOur clients wanted the dramatic look of a pergola for their kitchen with additional coverage for shade and protection from rain, too. A pergola over a specific section sets off that area and defines it as an outdoor room. As you may know, some pergolas provide more shade than others. It all depends on the pergola design. This large two-beam pergola, attached to the house, is designed for shade with purlins that are close together. The pergola also has a translucent cover that filters UV rays, blocks heat, and shields the outdoor kitchen from rain.
Archadeck - ColumbusIn addition to the custom deck, we chose to install vinyl (PVC) railing posts and baluster with low-profile, powder-coated aluminum pickets. Not only is this a long-lasting and stylish choice for a railing configuration, but the dark, low-profile pickets will also allow these Westerville homeowners a better view from their deck into their backyard. The white balustrade is a great designer complement to the home’s existing trim. Gravel was used to finish the area underneath the deck and will make a great space for storing outdoor items, such as lawn equipment.

Archadeck of AustinWe built the base of the outdoor kitchen with chop block stone. While we didn’t install the granite countertops, we did install the smooth, cream Lueders stone surface that supports the clients’ Big Green Egg. You can see these homeowners plan to do a lot of cooking outdoors. In addition to the Big Green Egg they have a grill, a griddle, a refrigerator, storage space, warming drawers and more. With bar seating at the counter, their guests will be able to visit with the chef easily.
Christopher D. Marshall Architect, LLCThe owner wanted to add a covered deck that would seamlessly tie in with the existing stone patio and also complement the architecture of the house. Our solution was to add a raised deck with a low slope roof to shelter outdoor living space and grill counter. The stair to the terrace was recessed into the deck area to allow for more usable patio space. The stair is sheltered by the roof to keep the snow off the stair.

The terrace was originally decorated with simple beige tiles and off-white walls. However, the space was completely transformed with the makeover taken up by Puru Home Ensemble.
For starters, the goal was to visually expand the terrace area. The gorgeous, blue skies and earthy hill view overlooking the terrace had to be complemented by an equally lively ambience! To achieve this beautiful look, we used ceramic patterned tiles to enlarge the area, creating a stunning, dreamy look in the process. Ikea furniture was carefully chosen for furnishing so as to not clutter the terrace space. The cherry on top came in the form of a wooden coffee table-chair combination. It just makes you want to curl up there with a fresh cup of tea and a great book to keep you company!
The funky, joyful terrace ambience was beginning to take shape and the decor needed something fresh to lighten it up. That’s when we liberally added striking, cool tones of fresh fuschia, cooling teal, and canary yellow through cushions and tablecloths to bring the whole theme together. Since the client asked not to do much with the walls, we added some well-placed hanging plants and a statement wooden mirror to balance the bright tones of the other elements in the space. Combined with lush green potted plants, the gorgeous terrace finally came together as a single space.
After a fulfilling design process, with the right perspective and expertise, we couldn’t have been happier to bring out the best in a minimal terrace space.

The character of the site is amplified by the dramatic contrast between architecture and sky. Mature magnolias underplanted with hostas form a threshold into the historic brownstone. Weathered-wood planting beds spill with new hardy shrubs, perennials, grasses, and herbs; a paper birch and a wind-sculpted spruce lend dramatic texture, structure, and scale to the space. Rugosa rose, juniper, lilac, peony, iris, perovskia, artemisia, nepeta, heuchera, sedum, and ornamental grasses survive year round and paint a brilliant summer-long display. A collection of new and antique containers dot the rooftop, and a terrific orchid collection rests beneath the birch tree during summer months.
