"Creekside" is my design response to this historically inspired new home and its position aside a wet season creek.

These courtyard duplexes stretch vertically with public spaces on the main level, private spaces on the second, and a third-story perch for reading & dreaming accessed by a spiral staircase. They also live larger by opening the entire kitchen / dining wall to an expansive deck and private courtyard. Embedded in an eclectically modern New Urbanist neighborhood, the exterior features bright colors and a patchwork of complimentary materials. Photos: Maggie Flickinger

The 2nd and 3rd story additons at the rear of the house share a common paint scheme, but differ in siding treatments to accentuate their respective volumes and reduce the presence of the back of the building. The third floor roof and lower kitchen decks are bordered by redwood railings with looped wire panels, made from fencing that typically bordered Victorian gardens. Photographer: Bruce Damonte
