Byley, Middlewich Renovated Barn Project
Byley, Middlewich Renovated Barn Project

We were approached by our client to design this barn conversion in Byley, Cheshire. It had been renovated by a private property developer and at the time of handover our client was keen to then create a home. Our client was a business man with little time available, he was keen for RMD to design and manage the whole process. We designed a scheme that was impressive yet welcoming and homely, one that whilst having a contemporary edge still worked in harmony with its rural surrounding. We suggested painting the woodwork throughout the property in a soft warm grey this was to replaced the existing harsh yellow oak and pine finishes throughout. In the sitting room we also took out the storage cupboards and clad the whole TV wall with an air slate to add a contemporary yet natural feel. This not only unified the space but also created a stunning focal point that differed from a media wall. In the master bedroom we used a stunning wood veneer wall covering which reflected beautiful soft teal and grey tones. A floor to ceiling fluted panel was installed behind the bed to create an impressive focal point. In the kitchen and family room we used a dark navy / grey wallcovering on the central TV wall to echo the kitchen colour. An inviting mix of linens, bronze, leather, soft woods and brass elements created a layered palette of colour and texture. We custom designed many elements throughout the project. This included the wrap around shelving unit in the family Kitchen. This added interest when looking across from the kitchen. As the house is open plan when the barn style doors are back, we were mindful of the colour palette and style working across all the rooms on the first floor. We designed a fully upholstered bench seat that sat underneath a triptyque of art pieces that work as stand alone pieces and as three when viewed across from the living room into the kitchen / dining room. When the developer handed over the property to our client the kitchen was already chosen however we were able to help our client with worktop choices. We used the deep navy colour of the kitchen to inspire the colour scheme downstairs and added hints of rust to lift the palette. Above the dining table we fitted a fitting made up from a collection of simple lit black rods, we were keen to create a wonderful vista when looking through to the area from three areas : Outside from the drive way, from the hallway upon entering the house and from the picture window leading to the garden. Throughout the whole design we carefully considered the views from all areas of the house.

The custom built wall panels are an inexpensive way to add color to a rental apartment and to add the function of an entryway, where none existed before. The front door leads directly into the living room and there is no coat closet. The custom hand made wall sconces add some mood lighting to the living room. Isabelle LaRue

Meyer & Meyer, Inc. Architecture and InteriorsMeyer & Meyer, Inc. Architecture and Interiors
Built in 1894, this historic Stick-style house in Cambridge, Mass. was originally part of an expansive estate owned by Gardiner Greene Hubbard, a lawyer who became the first president of National Geographic Magazine. His daughter married Alexander Graham Bell in the garden. Woodrow Wilson’s daughter later owned the house. Meyer & Meyer was commissioned by the new homeowners to better accommodate their active young family. The whole-house renovation included demolition of a small kitchen and its replacement with a gable-ended addition housing a new French-inspired SieMatic kitchen. The original paneling and woodwork was restored to its original state, filled in where missing, and complemented with new paint colors and hand-painted wall coverings and furniture. The project scope involved conversion of an upstairs office into a master bedroom-bathroom suite, renovation of all bathrooms, enhanced closet space, and an excavation below the house to create a new family room and guest suite with 10-foot-high ceilings.
Bath Painted Kitchen

Tim Wood LimitedTim Wood Limited
This kitchen was designed and made for a Georgian house near Bath. Tim Wood took inspiration from the original Georgian doors and paneling in the house, for the style of the kitchen and the pantry. From the outset the client dreamed of having a traditional cream Aga, complemented by high-tech appliances. This is a classic English country kitchen with a modern twist. The island furniture had a Verde Savannah granite top and the other kitchen worktops were in Rain Forest Green granite. There are handmade basket drawers to the left of the Aga and glass shelving in a number of the wall cupboards for storage and display. There are two full size specially made stainless steel pull out bins behind the cupboard doors within the island unit. A double French farmhouse sink and a separate sink within the island unit cover all food preparation needs. The island sink has a mounted Zip tap for the convenience of boiling water and filtered refrigerated water. But despite its homely qualities, the kitchen is packed with top-spec appliances behind the cabinetry doors. There are two large fridge freezers featuring icemakers and motorised shelves that move up and down for improved access, in addition to a wine fridge with individually controlled zones for red and white wines. These are teamed with two super-quiet dishwashers that boast 30-minute quick washes, a 1000W microwave with grill, and a steam oven with various moisture settings. The steam oven provides a restaurant quality of food, as you can adjust moisture and temperature levels to achieve magnificent flavours whilst retaining most of the nutrients, including minerals and vitamins.
