Comfortable and Collected
The family living in this shingled roofed home on the Peninsula loves color and pattern. At the heart of the two-story house, we created a library with high gloss lapis blue walls. The tête-à-tête provides an inviting place for the couple to read while their children play games at the antique card table. As a counterpoint, the open planned family, dining room, and kitchen have white walls. We selected a deep aubergine for the kitchen cabinetry. In the tranquil master suite, we layered celadon and sky blue while the daughters' room features pink, purple, and citrine.

Cozy in the Library 6. This San Francisco library is the perfect place for a fireside chat. The room promotes sharing — two cushy leather lounge chairs share an ottoman, two people can lounge in the velvet tête-à-tête, and the library table at the right end of the room has two chairs and a window seat. Tip: Don’t write off dark and moody colors when going for cozy. The dark wall color in here allows the brass library lamps, the sconces with patterned fabric shades and the fireplace to give the room a cozy glow.

I like that this room is very different from the home
