This project was kick-started by the removal of a large intrusive peninsula that competed with the young family’s bustling daily routine. Having already experienced the time investment of a sweat equity remodel, our clients enlisted us to do things a bit different while still paying careful attention to their personal aesthetic and lifestyle needs. The design sought to recreate a kitchen layout that would encourage gathering and create a welcoming space for friends and family, young and old. To open things up, the wall between the kitchen and dining room was eliminated. But we chose to retain and added on architectural elements to maintain a sense of intimate space within the new open concept. Those architectural elements were a creative way to accommodate existing structural elements and respect the bones of the home. The chunky early 00s arches were squared off for a more modern feel that better aligned with the client’s style. The hub of the home centers around the large walnut island featuring storage on three sides and seating for four. Handmade tile from Heath Ceramic creates a bold focal point. To ensure the space was bright and open, we opted for the two-tone mix of walnut and white cabinetry. The walnut cabinetry grounds the island and adds a touch of symmetry by flanking either side of the gas range. A new broom closet offers visual separation between the kitchen and the garage entry. Just of the garage door are a set of three tall cabinets that have been configured as locker storage for their kid's book bags, jackers, and shoes. Opposite the lockers is an overflow pantry space, window seat with extra storage, a nook for the dog bowls, and a mail station. A glass table in front of the window seat turns this area into the perfect homework nook. A set of three glass pendants from Pottery Barn illuminate the island. The soft white countertops are Daltile’s, Lincoln White matte quartz. Sleek cabinetry pulls from Amerock add that final touch. We are so in love with this cheerful, inviting main-level and are so happy our clients get to create memories inside these walls!

House hunting for the perfect home is never easy. Our recent clients decided to make the search a bit easier by enlisting the help of Sharer Design Group to help locate the best “canvas” for their new home. After narrowing down their list, our designers visited several prospective homes to determine each property’s potential for our clients’ design vision. Once the home was selected, the Sharer Design Group team began the task of turning the canvas into art. The entire home was transformed from top to bottom into a modern, updated space that met the vision and needs of our clients. The kitchen was updated using custom Sharer Cabinetry with perimeter cabinets painted a custom grey-beige color. The enlarged center island, in a contrasting dark paint color, was designed to allow for additional seating. Gray Quartz countertops, a glass subway tile backsplash and a stainless steel hood and appliances finish the cool, transitional feel of the room. The powder room features a unique custom Sharer Cabinetry floating vanity in a dark paint with a granite countertop and vessel sink. Sharer Cabinetry was also used in the laundry room to help maximize storage options, along with the addition of a large broom closet. New wood flooring and carpet was installed throughout the entire home to finish off the dramatic transformation. While finding the perfect home isn’t easy, our clients were able to create the dream home they envisioned, with a little help from Sharer Design Group.

A kitchen that matched her personality. This beautiful old home in Shorewood had a basic white kitchen but the homeowners wanted to open the kitchen to their family room and update the look to match their personality and style. We created an arched opening to the kitchen that followed the arch of the barrel vault ceiling in the family room. When opening up the kitchen we discovered that we could raise the ceiling height to match the rest of the home which visually lifted weight from the kitchen. We opened up a broom closet to create a small mudroom area by the back stairs. Grey stained oak cabinets and matte white Cambria Weybourne countertops with a waterfall edge beautifully contrast each other. To bring in color, we used colors from the rest of the house and created a custom colored cement backsplash tile handmade in Vietnam. We even included access to the laundry chute through a tall cabinet. Photography by Ryan Hainey

Buxton Photography The owners wanted a "French Country" style kitchen with the feel of New Orleans. We removed a dividing wall between the old kitchen and dining room and installed this beautiful expansive kitchen. The brick wall is "Thin Brick" and is applied like wall tile. There is ample storage including a pantry, island storage, two broom closets, and "toe kick" drawers. There are two sinks including one in the island. Notice the addition of the "pot filler" conveniently located over the gas cook top.

The original kitchen was very old and worn. It was also a white kitchen, just a more creamy white. The other issue with the kitchen is that it didn't function the way my clients wanted it to. So we stayed with a cleaner white and designed the kitchen with what was important to my clients, broom closet, garbage pullout, pantry with pullouts and so much more. Check it out for yourself!

This cramped and closed-in kitchen was no asset to this apartment. Luckily it sold to a couple with vision. With a wall of windows available, the dining table was moved into the living room, offering plenty of light and space. Glass display cabinets showcased crystal and a drink-service area was added. On either side is a well-disguised broom closet and a pantry! The pristine whiteness of the Shaker cabinetry and the subtle gray quartzite counters are a tonally perfect blend, contrasting with the rich, dark floors. Yes, enhanced value and enhanced living are truly a perfect marriage in a renovation.

The pantry, formerly a cluttered storage area, was transformed into a sleek and productive workspace. The new countertop, constructed of clear fir salvaged from the kitchen floor, adds six linear feet of prepspace. The cabinets above it were salvaged from former north wall that is now the main path through the kitchen. The hinges used for the salvaged cabinets are original from the east wall of the kitchen. The hinges for the broom closet doors are reproductions from House of Antique Hardware that approximate the originals. The pulls are brass penny "bow" style reproductions from Van Dyke Restorers. The shelf with a display of cafe au lait bowls was an ad lib designed to consume some of the space between the bottom of the cabinets and the countertop (since this set of cabinets used to hang above the refrigerator), with the curves on the end piece borrowed by the contractor from the brim of Keith's grandfather's straw hat that he saw hanging on the hall tree. A combination LED light/20 amp power strip runs the length of the self, invisible, but adding light and power to the prep area. White subway tile (Daltile Restore Bright White 3" x 6" with Mapei "Iron" grout) backsplash carries over from the east wall backsplash.
