Award winning Powder Bath

This client loves the unexpected! Throughout her home, you will find an unusual mix of materials and quirky creative details. The powder bath is no exception! The challenge was how to make this 12 and a half foot tall ceiling height work with a typical 5ft by 8ft space..and most importantly, how to give it personality and style. The inspiration occurred rather late in the building process. We determined that the best way to deal with the soaring ceilings was to embrace it. We knew that we were using the Stone Forest freestanding granite sink and the Sigma wall mounted faucet but also knew that we needed the walls to be clad in something fantastic to really give this bath visual interest. One afternoon, we went to the job site and took 3 rolls of blue tape. We then got on a very tall ladder and began experimenting, taping out various sized rectangles at different heights until we got a pleasing to the eye layout. Then we measured what we had and put it on paper. A bit of a reversal of the typical design process but it worked! Then we explored various materials to combine with the cut mirrors. Ultimately, we decided the dark walnut wood panels worked best as this material is used throughout other rooms in the home. Small mosaic custom mirror pieces were also randomly inserted into our grid pattern. To complement the mirror wall, we used a soft gray metallic paint on the walls. Choosing the correct art was equally as important to making the room work, and the painting with simple geometric lines and the shot of red in the wide border was the perfect choice!
