Advocate Sruthins residence

The old building was a prototypical example of the build-to-rent architecture that was common in Nizamabad, with little character and little natural light. The situation was made worse by crowded room sizes brought on by a shoddy interpretation of Vastu (the traditional Indian architectural method). The plaster surface texture and colour on the façade visually distinguish the public/private functions. The building is distinguished from its residential surroundings by a red ochre wall that gets its colour from the corporate emblem. Large, two-story balconies with polished cement finishes project outward in the direction of the front. Built-in planters serve as vertical kitchen gardens where herbs and creepers are grown. The structure aspires to serve as an example of revitalization for life in a congested metropolitan setting by including a variety of spaces and functions.
