sliding doors that disappear into a pocket - is there any relevance here - say if the French doors at the kitchen were actually a fixed pane and a single opening door (nearest to kitchen) then could sliding doors open to the right and overlap the pillar plus fixed pane leaving it even more open than bifolds would, and presumably cheaper, and less frame when closed?
