I had bought a beautiful old teak baby cot, from a second hand furniture market, which was cleaned and polished by the vendor. I got a tailor to make mattress, safety pillows on all the four sides, bolsters etc.. All my three grandchildren have used it when they come - the third one will use it till he grows up. It is easily converted into a sofa for two with lots of cushions and bolsters. It sits at the bottom of my bed and I use it every day. I have also converted a old Burma teak clothes horse (or stand) that was given to me and for which I have no use, into a coffee table, by loping off the top rods and making a frameout of them for a glass top on the lower half. It really works a dream. But the best thing to have to save space and to keep the house tidy are chests, and I have old sindooks or chests - Kashmiri walnut chest, an Indonesian teak chest and a Chinese wicker chest and an old chest with iron bindings. Two of these I use as coffee tables , two as room dividers and they work brilliantly. I dare say they would make good for seating people, with a good cushion that covers the top. What I say is by all means give away what you do not use, but very often you can re-purpose them with a little imagination and save yourself some money.
