When Urvi Mistry, founder and principal designer, Muse Architects, set out to design her own home located on the fringes of the city, amidst enchanting landscapes and natural hues, she decided to keep a neutral colour palette and subtle materials as the core design goal. She says, “The aim was to achieve materiality with a minimalistic approach.” She makes ample use of wood, believing it to be “a versatile material irrespective of its shade and pattern, which helps to transform a piece into timeless, classic art.”

The living area sports a muted colour palette that is sophisticated and timeless, providing the perfect backdrop for creative accents. Mistry explains, “The living area aesthetic is due to its bare minimal theme and enchanting voids within the furniture pieces.”

The grey tones diffused throughout the space, complemented by the natural hues of wood, play a key role in maintaining the harmony of the space.

The dining area includes similar tones with a clutter-free layout and clean finishes. A highly polished live-edge dining table brings warmth and an element of dynamism to the space.

Just off the dining space lies the open kitchen. Sleek, handle-less grey cabinets and a matching refrigerator complete the picture.
The master bedroom has also imbibed a similar minimalist theme with meticulous detail to furniture. The upholstered headboard of channel tufting is fixed on a veneer-clad wall that gives the room a rich, warm look.

“The mirror here works as a piece of aesthetic that breaks the geometrical barriers and the flow of defined lines in the space,” Mistry says.
This bedroom is designed keeping in mind prospective changes in the family in upcoming years. The play of white and blue is rooted in a colour palette as a future kids’ room.
Wardrobes painted in blue and white grids and the shiplap panelling create an interesting visual composition.

Similar to the mirror in the other room, “the arched shape of the cabinet breaks the rigid geometrical play, depicting the fluxional nature of the kid”.

“The guest room has a biophilic theme to keep the warmth of the natural environment that surrounds the home,” says Mistry. Simple yet alluring design and colours coexist and make the space a warm, understated abode.
