According to Aditi Vora Nair, founder and design director at AVN Interiors, “the client wanted a spacious, clutter-free space which was modern yet homely.” To achieve the required effect, the design firm used natural materials such as marble and wood, opted for a monochromatic colour scheme and ensured every room was bathed in natural light.

Past the hallway lies the living room to the left and the dining room to the right. Separating the two zones is a wooden cabinet bar (seen at right in previous image). The passage beyond leads to the bedrooms.

The living room features comfortable, expansive seating. The grey palette is all enveloping, so much so that it’s hard to guess where the floor ends and the carpet begins. However, a pair of sky-blue leather armchairs bring in a dose of colour to liven things up. White walls and full-length drapes make the room look large and spacious.

A large balcony abuts the living room, separated by sliding glass doors. Cleverly placed light fixtures that create a play of light make for a stunning accent wall, especially at night time. On the other end of the terrace sits a deep cane sofa ideal for a spot of lounging.

The master bedroom sports a sophisticated black look. It comprises a free-standing bed and a walk-in closet space behind the bed that is finished with black veneer and brass inlay. Nair states, “The dark colour tones set the mood of the room, with golden accents adding a hint of luxury.”

The marble is replaced by wooden flooring, a good idea for bedrooms, which require a touch of warmth. The modern pendant lights on either side of the bed are set off nicely by the black background.

The grandparents’ bedroom is located opposite the master bedroom. “Their bedroom is about keeping a space simple and uncluttered, while accentuating the attractive architectural features of the room,” says Nair.
The palette is mostly monochromatic, broken by colourful cushions that are used as an accent. The absence of a balcony is made up for by wall-to-wall windows that fill the room with natural light.
The daughter’s bedroom is designed to especially cater to the child’s needs. “The bunk bed placed at one side of the room’s layout gives free space in the middle for play; it also provides ample space for storage apart from the wardrobe,” Nair explains.

The bedroom is every little girl’s dream room – pastel colours with a predominance of pink, child-sized furniture and colour-laminated wardrobes that resemble doll’s houses.
